Practice Tree Hookup

Anybody here have experience with setting up a full size practice tree for foot braking? I have a two step and a brake pressure switch but everything else in the system is mechanical.

My Final Round practice tree has a foot switch but it is not at all realistic and I'm trying to setup a true in the cockpit environment for practicing.

Contact Portatree timing systems. Even if the equipment isn't theirs, I'm sure they'll offer some technical advise for you.

Put a on off switch on the brake pedal that your foot will rest on.

I use my Porta-tree Eliminator and full tree, started with the transbrake cable then made a harness to tie into the brake pressure switch to activate the practice tree with the pedal, just like it would the 2 step and it works great - just like on the starting line

Did the same thing, I have my porta-tree eliminator with a full tree, ran a second wire from my brake pressure switch to this input from porta-tree: https://portatree.com/product/transb...tion-1-8-plug/

So the brake pressure switch runs the practice tree.

Before pressure switches. I used a transbrake switch mounted to the brake pedal to activate my 2 step and practice on my practice tree. Basically it’s a piece of 1/4 thick 3”x3” aluminum angle. That is bolted to the back side of the pedal and the arm that comes down from the pedal pivot. It works very good and is inexpensive. I have a good picture of it. But can’t get it to post. If someone wants to see it and post it. PM me a phone number or email address and I’ll send it.

One word of caution. If you goto a Footbrake race. Tell them in tech what’s up or the crybabies will have a fit.

Mark,

I believe you employ a pressure switch that triggers your two step...You do not require an additional switch. If you have it wired as I do it provides 12v to your two step for activation. I've seen some that were wired to provide a ground to a two step that's already hot (not a good idea). So if my memory serves me right and you are wired like me tee into that line and present it to the tree footswitch connection. If your tree operates on a lower voltage like 9v's we'll have to step it down but its no biggie... Give me a call if you have a voltage mismatch, i can talk you through it.
