Teardown Question

Am I the only one that thinks NHRA needs to teardown the cars that are going fast to make sure the car is legal before they (NHRA) make the decission to give that combination horsepower? The rest of the cars running that combo shouldn't have to pay the price if the fast car isn't legal. After trying to set a record at the local open I was told that when my port cc's were within the spec's shown I would be good to go. When I showed up at the next race and the head checked I was asked to take two valves out and then they (NHRA) produced a stock head and intake to compare. I now have a pair of expensive door stops. The latest rumor that as long as the ports pour and there isn't any grind marks and they won't embarrass (NHRA) they will pass is just that a rumor.

We have been down a dozen times between myself and
my kids......Always had to remove two Valves and have
had head inspected pretty thoroughly. Just part of the usual
teardown inspection deal.

Re: Teardown Question

The problem with rumors is that sometimes they are close to the truth and sometimes not. So it really all depends on where you heard it, who you heard it from, and who is supposed to have said it.

Then you have to worry about whether the one who actually might have said it, will actually say it again when you need to hear it.

Their game, their rules, and their level of enforcement at any given time......... their choice.

I don't think anyone is trying to be a bad guy. But each division seems to have a slightly different interpretation of the rules. And that is only human.

We have been torn down. CCed, and everything else checked too. But frankly it was our own fault for going too fast. And obviously, we were legal. We will probably get torn down again soon too. But that is racing and we are legal, so we see it as apart of racing. And what they ask us to show, is what we will have to show...

Re: Teardown Question

My old combo was hit twice by a car that to my knowledge has never been apart for inspection.

IMO, instant hit = instant teardown

What was wrong that got your heads bounced?

I agree if car causes hp hit should be verified legal it would be stupid to refactor off a car that could be illegal.

Who did your stocker heads? They checked out alright in combustion chamber, Intake port and exhaust ports? Did the valves not measure ok? So, tell us who did the heads???? Sounds like you got a raw deal. Send a private message if you cannot tell who did the heads. Good Luck.

Re: Teardown Question

"Rumor" has it that tech looks close at the short side radius and the guide area in the runners. They sometimes bring in OEM castings to compare these areas looking for bogus work that has been done.
