rotor & hat

What would cause the hat to be sheared from the rotor. The hat is hexbolted to the rotor. It didn't shear at the bolts, it sheared at the bend. Is this common? Wilwood hat with 2.12 inch offset & solid Aerospace rotor. Would you replace both sides?

I don't have any experience with two piece rotors I have always used the one piece Strange Engineering rotors I have had some ocasional cracking between the cooling slots and the edge of the rotor and I always replace both sides at the same time. You might want to give them a call and see if their rotors would be compatable with your offset & calipers.

Re: rotor & hat

I would make sure that the caliper is centered on the rotor, if not, it may be causing more load on one side than the other causing the rotor to flex when you apply the brakes.

Chuck is correct, this is what causes most rotors to "bell".
When the rotors bell ,or become dish shaped, the bolts ,and the hat are under extrem loading ,that they are not designed for.
