MSD Distributor?
MSD Distributor is it better to have a steel or brass gear on the end? We had the car slow down 2 years and find the gear was all chewed up. I can't recall what the engine builder put on or if him put a new one on. I was just wanting to know if when i pull the distributor out and find that the gear is chewed up what could be happen to it? Happy Father's Day to the DADS!! I'm almost sure that's what the deal is. Gear bad..

Re: MSD Distributor?
I use the Comp Cams composite gear on my MSD/Chevrolet distributors. Even at 8500 RPM with 75-80 psi oil pressure they hold up very well, and never damage a camshaft gear.

Re: MSD Distributor?
I've always been told that if you have a Steel cam as in a Roller, then you better use a dist gear made of a bronze or composite ! With a cast cam ,such as a hyd, or solid flat tappet cam use a stock gear with no problems ! This has always been the rule on my Mopars !,,,,,,,,,,John
