Whither cap'n jack's turbo-hydro???

With all the well-deserved kudos going to the Indy tech crew, I was curiouus as to the situation regarding what kind of response the Captain has received from the fellows at Glendora (NHRA Tech) regarding the much-delayed approval of the legality of installing a 3-speed automatic in the Kingswood Estate wagon, to replace the Turboglide 3-speed automatic it COULD have been ordered with, initially.

Seems like a slam-dunk to me, but, that has not been the case.

Captain, my Captain, what is the status of this saga? Was there any help to be found at Indy?

Curious minds are still wondering what the latest word from the ivory tower might be.

In all their squirming, has anyone ever offered a logical reason why this swap is disallowed, or would that be asking too much?

Just wondering...

Bill

Bill, you know I was thinking about this, and with today's technology, he should just build a true Tubroglide and put in it and see how they like that. Of course if it is not in the guide, I guess it still would not be legal. I bet it would be hard to find one. I don't remember seeing one since the late 60s.

Jim,

I can't imagine why it wouldn't be in the Guide, as many thousnds were sold; it was an option on virtually ANY V8 sedan from '57 through '61 (but, not Corvettes.)

I saw several 348-powered cars that had 4.56 gears and Atlas Bucrons run some pretty impresssive e.t.'s with Turboglides, but the small-blocks didn't seem to like it as well. Probably had everything to do with being held down to that 3,500 rpm stall speed until second gear played out. Not a lot of HP available at that rpm from a 283.

bill,
bruce took my information and promised to review everything and let me know as soon as possible
it was a very nice and short meeting, they were busy with the indy duties.
i cannot see them saying no, over 90,000 were made and offered behind 283 & 348

i really dont want a turboglide guys it is a giant slushbox that outweighs a iron glide !!!

now a turbo 350 or 200... yeah ill take one of those :)

My Captain,
Thanks for the reply! That sounds like good news to me. Guess we'll just have to wait and see, and I hope it's not very long.

I hope you're able to put a metric 200 behind that 283. I think it will really liven things up, especially, for the first 60 feet!

I wish you the BEST of luck with this; you have lots of friends pullin' for you.!!!!
