Last point to change dial in at NHRA races?
At the National event in Joliet last week there is a sign as you roll out of the staging lanes to turn right and head under the tower which reads "no changing dial-in after this point" or some such thing.
Word is there was at least one car where they changed their dial-in at the point where you are stopped under the tunnel to pull out onto the racing surface. So is there really a spot where you can no longer change the dial-in prior to your burnout? |
Re: Last point to change dial in at NHRA races?
Most of the time those signs are for the local bracket program every week at those tracks.
I have really never heard or seen where NHRA or IHRA makes that call at their National Events. I have no idea maybe what your getting at, but i guess there wouldnt be a problem about another driver changing dail ins at the last minute unless your running a box class, in SS & Stock, just knowing him or her is faster or slower then you should be all you need to know. But thats just me. |

You gotta be careful, some people have been known to change their dial considerably!

Let em change the dial before they stage. It really doesnt matter.

Re: Last point to change dial in at NHRA races?
I'm with Mr. Zane,
I would think it matters considerably about when they change it as some guys are racing by themselves and others may have 6 people there. If the other car has say a 12.05 index and has dialed 11.00 out of the staging lanes and just as the fine NHRA official waves you into the water box one of their "crew" changes it to 12.05 you just went from getting a head start to giving one without knowing it until you stage. After all the "Sportsman" part of Stock/Super Stock racing has to come from ethics because it surely isn't about the amount of money being spent. Just asking if there is a cut off point that's all and it seems there is not. Heck I wouldn't want to get tossed for something like using shoe polish at the wrong time. That would be as bad as when I heard IHRA threw someone out just for supposedly spraying aerosol cans on their intake manifold in their pit. As if 2 or 3 spray cans of keyboard cleaner were going to actually cool 500 lbs of cast iron and give them an advantage! |

From what I've seen, it is typically the ready line, though I think I've seen it allowed in the burnout box before doing a burnout.

Re: Last point to change dial in at NHRA races?
At a points meet, national, or sportsnational, you typically know what your competition has been running during the event. the exception being some of the folks that like to qualify around the bottom of the ladder.
Unless you have one of them first round, then even that doesn't matter. I am with Nitro Joe on this as it should only affect people racing with a box. |
Re: Last point to change dial in at NHRA races?
It should'nt matter unless you have a delay box and are crossing over.

How about a little consideration for the people in the tower who have to enter the dial in the computor.
