Re: Square 10
Mark,
The wheels are Billet Specialties Winlite. I like them, they are very well done, look great. I like shiny parts :) |
Re: Square 10
Mark, 15 x 4 front and 15 x 14 rear. And off all things, the center cap is machined on the wheel, all one piece, non-removable.

Re: Square 10
Mark, you will notice the rear housing has overlength tubes. This allows you to cut and fit the wheel/tire package exactly where you want it in the chassis. The rear wheels are 4.5 back spacing.

I will move around from one area to another. About 85% of the parts needed to complete the projects are on hand.
*Setting cam timing *Checking valve to piston clearance *Over the years, I have tested many carbs. One company that consistently provides good service and results is APD. The Square 10 will carry a complete APD methanol system. *High compression is my friend. *This is the first time posting about my experimental 2/16 offset stud. |

It takes 5 levels to properly install shock crossmember and tabs.
|
Re: Square 10
You can never have too many levels.
|
Re: Square 10
You are correct; many levels are the correct number.

Because I am calling this my Square-10 build, I am making things square when possible. Am even considering having a carpenter's square design logo displayed in some way.

The square 10 will be a bare bone, stripped down, light as possible hot rod.

Nice work!
Build is for what class? |
Re: Square 10
Frank, Thank you. It is a simple, basic, bracket toy for local tracks. It will run about a 6.30 ET with a 383 SBC.

Around twenty years ago, I considered replacing my old sealed power manual ring grinder with an electric model. Each time I would consider doing so, I would convince myself I would only do a few more engines, so I would get by with what I have. Well, now I am age 77, and it is a slow, tedious, time-consuming task with the old manual tool. But I will only be doing a few more engines. Old fellows, old tools, old ways that define me. I average about 45 minutes per cylinder to gap rings, assemble the rod to the piston, work with the pin clips, and install the piston and torque rod. Then, a break to look things over, ponder, daydream, and perform other necessary duties. So, it is really an hour per cylinder. And this is with everything already clean, already checked, and everything laid out.
Also note my 50 year old ring squaring tool. Larry Woodfin |

I have been known to say I do my best thinking, err, hallucinating when mowing or driving. Since it is the off-season for mowing, my thinking is confined to driving.
The following photos show my revolutionary design to replace valve springs. The idea came in a dream, spawned by the toughness of cable ties. The tails are located outside the valve covers to allow tension adjustments. |

Re: Square 10
Just curious, is that a oil temperature gage line in the oil pan or is it a line for a oil heater? Thanks
|
Re: Square 10
Greg, it is the power cord for the oil heater. It's a Steff's item. This is my first experiment with such an apparatus.

I am old, and I like a mix of old and new. Plus, I think things have karma. I have had this obsolete Moroso stud girdle for many years. It has been on at least three engines, all of which were winners. I simply like the design. I have several other parts on the Simply Square truck from former winning combos
