Most Significant "Stocker" Technology
OK, it's the 21ST century. Stockers are never going to be seeing 7" tires and "stock" valve spring rules ever again.
What do youze guyz (sorry, I spent the weekend at Numidia) tink are the most significant and important technological advances driving Stock Eliminator into the future? Please no whining, we're just talkin' here. I'm thinking that the ability to gather data on a run has to be up there. So, Data logging. |
Re: Most Significant "Stocker" Technology
Maybe, more torque converter technology to make them adjustable and more efficient and LIGHTER ?

Re: Most Significant "Stocker" Technology
Well, I did replace my Shiefer Rev Loc pressure plate and "L88" disk and 30 lb flywheel in my stocker with a fancy smancy double disk clutch setup that is faster and easier to tune.
Sorry Dale, but what is this torque converter thing you speak of ? |
Re: Most Significant "Stocker" Technology
Dave, i'm still learning how to drive an automatic i don't understand the three pedals and only two feet thing ?

CNC Ported Cylinder Heads for the Factory Stockers....

Re: Most Significant "Stocker" Technology
L88 I resemble that ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
O2 sensors and the internet so a racer can research what ever wild idea he is thinking. |
Re: Most Significant "Stocker" Technology
Acid porting
|
Re: Most Significant "Stocker" Technology
well being that illegal porting and the methods for disguising it has been in use for decades as well light weight body panels made of aluminum or carbon fiber, whatever this technology is, it's either already being used or hasn't been developed yet.

Data loggers

Re: Most Significant "Stocker" Technology
I have to say the clutch technology has come along way,, I don't have one of those fancy smancy units like dave has YET! but the mcleod soft loc is a tried and true clutch ,easy to tune if you follow the instructions

Re: Most Significant "Stocker" Technology
Data loggers are not unique to Stock, fellas. They've been around for decades in the higher classes. They've filtered down into Stock now, where some actually believe they are a requirement to be competitive , thus further raising the bar away from an entry level class.
I'd have to say the special, trick ring packs that fit the standard 5/64th , 1/16 grooves etc. are a significant Stocker technology. |

Re: Most Significant "Stocker" Technology
certinally not new, but still # 1, is buying or renting technology $$$

Re: Most Significant "Stocker" Technology
The newest thing to hit is going to be an electric car. Time for NHRA to start structuring the different classes. EA/SA, EB/SA, EC/SA, ED/SA and so on.
Ron Ortiz U/SA. I tink I saw a blue Camaro go fast but was quiet |

Re: Most Significant "Stocker" Technology
From my observations watching stockers leaving the starting line, it has a lot to do with rear suspensions. I'll go with Cal Tracs and similar devices.

Re: Most Significant "Stocker" Technology
Many of the things mentioned here have made many of the old Musclecars 2 seconds quicker than when I first raced Stock.
For the engine, the unlimited cam duration & spring pressures have obviously allowed much higher rpm & hp. The approved forged pistons & rods, & even aftermarket blocks, have allowed many engine combos to run 8000 rpm plus, & live. Don't know how many of the longer stroke engines could do that back in the old days. The lighter legal auto trans have also lowered ET's some. I also agree that the Cal Trac type bars have made the leaf spring cars quicker. Many of the 10 sec Stockers now need wheelie bars to help control the launch. So, when you know you're hooked to the track, you can then obviously make other changes that will lower ET. I'm obviously no expert. These are just casual observations, comparing what I saw in the '70's, to what I see today. |
Re: Most Significant "Stocker" Technology
Somebody forgot to tell Gene Jordan and Joe Santangelo that they need Cal-Tracs...

Re: Most Significant "Stocker" Technology
Yeah, some guys can run quick without traction bars or soft compound tires.

Re: Most Significant "Stocker" Technology
A Stocker of today is really more like a Super Stocker on 9” tires.
More power and rpm than your average SS’er of the past A real fast SS/JA which was a very popular class 40 years ago went 11.0’s with a roller cam and any intake and big tires. Firestone’s 12.2 x 31.25’s The same car today running G/SA can go in the 10’s ! With a stock lift solid cam and stock intake ! ‘69 Camaro 350/255.... The list of legally allowed parts is a mile long..... |
