The 'Tin Soldier' 1969 COPO Camaro gonna T&T @ No Problem
A Camaro enthusiast by the name of Rich Pern has bought the 'Tin Soldier' and is going to test it at No Problem, according to a bonifide source.
I've never met Rich but have engaged him on several Camaro forums, seems to be a really good guy and is passionate about old Camaros. The car has been restored to resemble how it was raced back in the day. Anybody remember this car? Here is the thread with pertinent info within at Team Camaro- http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=217460 |

Yes!!!!! Owned & operated by Ron Terrel and was campaigned locally when we had class runs at each race every week. I raced against Ron many times at Edgewater and Tri-State. Ron wasn't one to brag and never mentioned that his car was a real COPO. His car was always very tough to beat and had excellent preparation. Bob Michael.

Bob,
I was curious if the car belonged to Ron since he runs a mid 80's Camaro with the same name. If anyone has contact info for Ron please post it here or send me a PM so I can relay it to a friend of the new owner, I'm sure Rich Pern would like to talk to him about the car. |

It is sooo cool to see the 'Tin Soldier' '69 Camaro again. I watched Ron make many, many runs at Edgewater, Tri-State and Kil-Kare with it.
Ron's current Camaro is also named 'Tin Soldier.' The lettering style is very similar to the '69 car, which I also think is cool!! Ron is just a great racer, plain and simple. And he can tell racing stories with the best of them....lol! Don Whitmore |

I was lucky enought to get to race against the "Tin Soldier" camaro when Ron was racing it in SS/EA. I was running my candy Apple red 67 Corvette we built. We enjoyed the class competition back then. We had as many as 8 class cars in any nationals where we raced.
Ron is a "class" racer...Very Fast 85 Camaro... (We built it in our Richmond Performance Center) |

His car had the most amazing amount of detail I have ever seen on the wiring and routing of his fuel injection system, ignition, and other wiring. I simply couldn't believe how much time it must have taken and asked him if he minded me taking pics. |
Re: The 'Tin Soldier' 1969 COPO Camaro gonna T&T @ No Proble
So let me guess........He minded?

He was very pleased that I showed that much interest and he is quite the innovator. He showed me how to spot NOS lines on a FE.

This is bugging me. I would like to post the pics, but I don't have a service that does it. Can I text the pics to someone to post for me? I am sure Ronnie won't mind.
(Just have to make sure I don't send the blackmail pics I have of certain Fairlane) |
Re: The 'Tin Soldier' 1969 COPO Camaro gonna T&T @ No Proble
Hi Guys,
I know this was posted almost a year ago, but I am finally clearing off the dust on Tin Soldier and getting the old warhorse back into shape. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-t...216_170009.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-B...216_172124.jpg I will be at No Problem tomorrow night with Tin Soldier to start the process of sorting it out with a friend Ricky. I have "learned to love racing again" as my kids have both recently gotten into the hobby. My son, whom just got his 14' Camaro V6, surprised me by saying how much he liked the Tin Soldier story and Mr. Ron and his son Jason having Tin Soldier II and III. He approached me about modding his Camaro into TS IV. So... What can you do with a 2014 Camaro, V6, Convertible? Twin Turbos of course. :) https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-k...71-no/Hood.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-U...o/dyno-440.jpg Making about 440hp and 410 Tq on 13.5lbs of boost. All on a V6 Camaro and 93 pump gas. So far the best run with drag radials is 12.81 Of course, my daughter not to be outdone by her brother, wanted to learn. She talked my wife into letting her learn on her 14' Cadillac CTS VSport, also a twin turbo car. Here they both are a few weeks back at capital in Baton Rouge https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-F...208_130123.jpg Now they are both hooked and when we go I am lucky to get a pass in. So, its time to break out Tin Soldier and show them what real American Muscle is all about. I have been talking with Jason, Mr. Rons son and we are trying to setup a event to meet at between New Orleans and Ohio this spring and get all 4 cars together. Jason's TS III is also a Turbo car. Anyways, I remembered this old thread from when I acquired Tin Soldier and wanted to let you guys know that one, it was not restored into a "original" trailer queen and two, that true to its heritage it will be back on the track (although with me as a driver, driven no where near as well as when Mr. Ron was running). Hopefully this spring/summer we can get Mr. Ron back behind the wheel and see if the old warhorse can still run with the best of em. Video of Mr. Ron seeing the Tin Soldier for the first time in over 25 years at the 2013 Camaro Nationals where his wife and son set him up to be reunited with the car: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jl5n0peiSQ Rich |
