I think they use these to read time slips, look for any dropped snacks and to find the cup holder.

Re: Amber lights in cars pointed at the tree at Vegas
stops any distraction of opponents tree coming down and makes using a blinder much easier at night.

help with the food and drink is a major bonus

Paul,
Are they flooding the inside of the car with the amber lights? My son really struggles with the night racing as he also bottom bulbs. If this is so,it makes sense. Are there any photos of this? Jeff Ross |

I believe Tommy is correct..

Re: Amber lights in cars pointed at the tree at Vegas
They've been using them for a long time to lessen the glare from the lights.Started with the incandescent bulbs.I think the LEDs have lessened the problem. That's why some tracks point a flood light at the tree at night.
Either that or it looks cool, like putting the flourescent lights under the outer edges of the car. |
Re: Amber lights in cars pointed at the tree at Vegas
If you try to use a blinder at night, the glare from the second bulb shines around the blinder. People have been putting a small amber "194" bulb (old side marker bulb) behind their blinder so that it has the glare all the time.

They should outlaw these types of blinders..

I have my car set up the same way. I tried blocking at night and it was a big no no. I would see the bleed from the 2nd amber and turn lose..... |

maybe it is just the glow from the Vegas Strip that is affecting some drivers.

Theyve been around, I noticed Charlie Taylor using the marker lights back in the late '80s or so, Jeff does real well with them. Simple and effective for some, I simply cant blind at night but it does help at dusk or when a track has flood lights on the tree. LED's have helped everyone I believe.

Vegas shields need to be extended. We had the same issue first round and almost got bit. A simple old bracket trick from the 70's (Hammer). I have noticed also that some tracks do not align the LED lamps so the driver does not see them consistantly.

Hugh is right. They've been around for long time. I thnk they even talked about it in the 80's or early 90's on an NHRA TV show.

Re: Amber lights in cars pointed at the tree at Vegas
I had an amber clearence light on my dashboard around '02.Never used it much,as I didn't
get to race at night much.I usually lost before the sun went down.Remember having it at Delmar in 2002.Sat. night lost in semis of open at 1;30 AM and r/u on Sunday of div. That was with the incandescent bulbs.Don't need it now with the LEDs. |
