Under-Rated Cars From the Mid-Late 60's
Not the favorite choice of Mopar Racers.
The 1966 Plymouth Belvedere Street-Hemi. Square and Box-like. Heavy with a lower-compression Hemi engine. Moderate-lift camshaft. No one expected them to dominate A/S for 1966. pc |
Re: Under-Rated Cars From the Mid-Late 60's
I remember the first time I saw Bobby Warren's 69 Nova run at York US 30 Penn. back in the 7 inch tire days. It sounded like a big block, ran as quick or quicker as most big blocks of the time, but was just a little ole 350/255 HP small block. I was impressed.

I believe I ran up running against the Warren and Register car when a guy in Texas ended up with it. It was a regular at Paris and Hallsville.

Re: Under-Rated Cars From the Mid-Late 60's
Matt Steen's Valiant is a S/S car.
Angela Bushmaker's 235/273 Valiant runs in K/SA, usually. Her car is competitive (mid-to-high 11's) but is no giant killer. It has benefitted from a moderate amount of HP reduction, but like Bob Glidden in his heyday, Wade Owens's 283 is seemingly needing a factor on the driver.... |

It has also benefitted from an Edelbrock intake. Apparently those stock intakes (for which there is no # listed) must really be rare! Or maybe it's just a west coast thing. |
Re: Under-Rated Cars From the Mid-Late 60's
Mopar to her on the intake! Even with the intake and a horsepower reduction, it's still nearly half a second behind the class-record-holding 283 Chevy that dominates the class.
"Just work harder"???? Nobody can work that hard... |
Re: Under-Rated Cars From the Mid-Late 60's
Bill, which class and what record does this 283 hold?

Shawn,
My mistake; I was referring to Wade Owens' '66 Chevelle, but he's not the record holder... My apologies for the mistake... dunno where I got that.. |

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Final order after 3 rounds of qualifying in Stock Eliminator at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, North Central Division, event at Beech Bend Raceway Park:

That was my point. Sorry I presented it so poorly and created a lot of unnecessary confusion. His car flies; congratulations! |
