Re: Auction
Ed, Almost like the Factory putting a crate motor in a body and passing it off as a Stocker.

Re: Auction
Unfortunatley someone else has pointed out.....the old man has a very correct RT (real RT) Real FC7 (plum crazy) with Factory Luggage rack and A.M. 8 track, not #s matching with a 6 pack in it, very very correct , and very very very nice car.....hes asking 55k no takers....If I threw and XV front suspension in it and a 6.1 hemi EFI I could get that and then some....stupid I agree, but its what selling....my 72 318 Sad mouth chally is getting a twin turbo 5.7 hemi and the Viper 6 speed that came out of the DP , I couldnt get 20k for the Chally original Ill get over 30 finished and have 2 buyers trying to get me to finish it asap.
Hes also got an all correct, # matching RT Convertible 1970 383 car, no tribute ..... not a CLONE....dont know why people insist on calling a clone a "tribute" but same thing for that car...55k and no takers. Then again the last *** paid 120k for this car at BJ about 3 years ago....the old man paid what hes asking from him , they claimed it as a nut and bolt resto....the car is actually just a repaint, its actually a very very nice original with just paint....all interior is original and there is no repro on the car anywhere :) Maybe I should pull the motor and put a twin turbo 5.7 in it.....lol.. Re: Auction
The problem right now is the economy and money is tight.
Some people have money but are holding on to it. I think the Barrett Jackson in January may be a little slower than last year but the high rollers show up for that one so who knows. If you go on Sunday you can tell more of the real economy as all the high rollers are done on Saturday night. January of 2009 Sunday sales were really poor. The people that had a Sunday date in the afternoon really got took. I like to go to watch the people and some bidding wars. Like was said earlier it is the best car show in the world to go and see. A few years ago on Friday late afternoon a couple of guys with girls on their arms who could have been their daughters got into a bidding war for a 57 T Bird and it went to the $130,000's before one gave up. Everyone there at the time was just laughing and shaking their heads. The car was not that nice and most of the people I was with thought the car should have gone for $50,000 to $60,000 but went for over twice that just because a couple of guys had a little to much to drink and had their ladies to impress. It is a lot of fun to go to and I would recommend everyone go at least once to see the spectacle. There is much more than the cars to see. I would love to have the Plum Crazy Challenger!!!!! It would look really good in my garage. I just need to win the lottery first. |
Re: Auction
It all comes down to "supply & demand".
I think calling them "tribute cars" sounds stupid also. But, at least they're not trying to pass them off as originals like was done quite often a few years ago. At least they're being honest about what they are. Maybe it's because buyers are now a lot sharper than they used to be. And why do people buy "tribute cars"? Because they're driveable. They're fun. You can relive your youth. Some of the originals are so valuable, you can't drive them for fear of hurting them. You're afraid to turn them more than 3,000 rpm for fear of launching an original numbers matching engine. With "tribute cars" you can drive them like they were meant to be driven when new. If you should scatter a motor, no big deal. You put another in and it's still worth what it was before. |

Re: Auction
Agree 100%.....the FC7 6 pack car and its all I mean REAL correct except the motor, but it is a real RT, the 383 just went poof through the ages. It was bought as a driver even though it was show condition and really more of what people reffer to as a trailer queen....yeah not us....
Since the motor or tranny wasnt an issue and it was driven. But if you break it out, paid 55k for it....super nice. Cant buy a new Mercedes or BMW convertible for that....drive the piss out of it, let it rust and drive it and treat it no different that a "daily commuter car" Whats the BMW worth in say 15 years ? Whats the Chally worth ? My bet is over half the original purchase price...the Mercedes ? I have no idea....but its still not as cool. You can ALWAYS re-restore a car, while you cant make it original again.....so thats why the Yellow RT Conv, I drove it for a while this summer, but it makes me twitcy as I cant fix things like the belting wear on the seats, theyre original and perfect....but well....I can never make them original agai.. About 4 years ago I had a new Caddy, it was 6 months old and it got Totaled...Ins paid off nicley. It was March and I had no car, I didnt like the caddy and was trying to decide on what I wanted next....I had in the Garage a 7k mile 64 Imperial Convertible I had bought the Nov before from the Grandson of a guy who bought 2 in 64, died in 66....I made it my daily driver until November put over 9k on it and sold it for 5k more than I paid......new cars are horrible investments, even driving the old stuff is better :) Beside the Imperial rode better than the Caddy :) Granted the gas mileage wasnt the greatest in the City but most of mine is xway..I think when I put my foot into it from stop light to stop light I could feel it drinking gas....lol Unfortunatley other people dont see it that way....hence the supply and demand issue.....They dont see the older stuff as "reliable" but we know different, electronic ignition, some new compound belts hoses and seals and your good. BAH......Then again if everyone was like me , the roads would look like a Barret Jackson mobile auction.... Quote:

Re: Auction
Clones are needed for this market. As long as the owner/seller is
forthright before the auction, not during the bidding. Hard to imagine someone with a 64' Plymouth 383, and them having a max-wedge engine and ram-air hood that they picked up at a swap meet event. Much easier to sell a Max-wedge clone, than a #'s matching 383. But "Tribute" cars. No way. Does the world need another 'Dukes of Hazard' "General Lee" Please pass the Grey Poupon. |
