My son (18) finished building his 327 for his 70 Nova. It should run in the 11's. It has all good pieces in it but he put the factory distributor from the old 350 back in it with new points, condensor, etc. It has a curve kit in it with the heavy springs. The engine runs great at idle but at around 3000 it starts to break up and miss alot. If you really start to get on the engine it pops like crazy. I run a crank trigger in mine so we can't switch out and try it. is he going to need to run a msd or mallory type dist with this engine. Also he bought a standard coil. Im not sure if it can put enough juice for this engine. Thanks as always for the info.

Use the mallory 102X points if still available will let you rev to 8500++++ otherwise go to an electronic ignition get rid of the points etc.

Ed:
Get rid of those heavy springs. You want the total in early, say by 2500 rpm. Best buy is an MSD dist. f you want detail Email me. Sometimes the best substitue for brains is silence. |

it sounds like the factory ballast resistor may have been bypassed in the wireing some chevys are at the old style voltage regulator and a swap to a one wire alternator may eliminate it . you might try adding an aftermarket
ballast resistor
