Talking project input....

OK here's what I have..it's an 81 Z-28 t top car perfect body ready to paint. My wife drove it to high school back some 17 years ago (i didn't tell U guys that!) the car was her brothers. He blew the motor back in early 91. It sat in a barn from 91 to Xmas 95 when we ( i ) took it to Jeff Potts's body shop...where he got it "ready" to paint (it still has the door locks & handles taped up! ) it hadn't seen the light of day till I bought it back in June. Now then what I want to do with it.....I want it to be streetable but still be able to "bracket" race it. It's Marissa's car she going to drive it most of the time but I want something to bracket race other then my Cutlass. that said I want it to run mid to high 12's like my cutlass. What I have is a standard bore 400sb I have a 1.82 powerglide with a turbo action manual valve body or a 350 turbo the car has a 3.42 gear & posi that is going to stay! now then I have 2 plans 1) I have a set of 624 heads untouched an edelbrock proformer intake..do I have a set of 1.94 1.50 stainless valves put in them with a set of dish pistons an I'm looking @ the 327/350 hp blueprinted cam & having someone do me a Q-jet. OR 2) do I buy a set of alum. heads & put a hyd roller cam in it??? I just want the car to run somewhere between 12.60 & 12.90....I also want Marissa to be able to drive it in to get a pizza (& some beer! LOL) (I live 3 miles from town) WHAT WOULD U GUYS DO????

Get a late model hydraulic roller Vortec head, 350 truck block with 4-bolt mains in lieu of the 400 SBC. SBC 400 engines are thin wall and tend to crack on the intake valley area. The late model blocks also use hydraulic rollers. If you want cubic engines, shop for a stroker crank in Ebay; they are plentiful, and build a 383 CID. Use the T-350 trans. There are better grinds out there than the 327/350hp cam. Run a performer RPM type intake; I have used the Performance Products version of the intake and you can get it for Ebay for around $125.00. Also, you can use either the Vortec cylinder cast iron heads with larger valves, or find a set of GM Aluminum heads Part Number 10038113, used on the ZZ4 engines. I would run one of Dean Oliver's QJ. The last 350 I built for a customer, had the Vortec heads with a Performer RPM and a QJ made 422 HP with gobs of torque and it is a street car.
