Ok working on a new transmission is there anything different to do when you have an alum drum? Different band adjustment? different service intervals ? My current trans has lots of runs on it, so the new trans I would like to last just as long.

If the drum has a band that rides on it, you need a special band, or the drum needs a special coating, or both.
Are you talking about a PowerGlide?

In any event, both adjustment and shift timing are critical. If the band drags on the drum, due to being adjusted wrong, or due to improper shift timing, the life of the drum will be shortened. A lot of drums are now hard anodized, coated, or sleeved. That extends their life greatly. In the case of drums that have to be stopped by a band, getting it stopped quickly and completely is critical for the life of the drum. Of course, a good clean release is as well.

Hi,
Do yourself a favor and call the manufacturer of the drum and see what their recommendations are................ Then you can either follow them or not.............. Bob
