Carburetor I.D.#?

Found a large Rochester 2 barrel carburetor in my stash while cleaning up today. I.D.# is 7040426. What did this once live on? It's not in the engine specs in the tech bulletin from NHRA. It's complete. I don't remember where I got it.

In about 1980, I had a 70 Chevelle 250 horse 350. It got a quadrajet and an intake change at some point while I had it. That's probably where it came from.

Measure the venturi and see if it is one of the infamous 1.375" carbs. You could have a semiprecious treasure.

Kind of amazing that the 396/265 horse carb is smaller than the 350/250 carb. My 70 Chevelle as I remember had quite a bit of torque and was kind of fun to drive. It was rather fast for a car with only a 2 barrel.

Took it apart this morning. Venturi size was a 1.250. Main jets were 62's. A scan of the NHRA tech bulletin showed that the 1970 carb #7040113/114 has the 1.375"venturi.
Interestingly enough, the 265 horse 400 had a 1.250"venturi. Seems more is sometimes less.

"California" could be the reason for the smaller venturi.

Might also be the reason for the fact that that carb number isn't on the NHRA tech sheet. Certainly there is no reason to use it anyway.
