Jeez 'oh Pete I don't know how Schumacher stays in business, let alone makes enough money to fund fuel teams... I cant get any of their junk Made in China communist piece of garbage battery chargers to last more than a year...
I am not interested in 16 volt stuff, I'm 12volt. Does ANYONE still make a good old fashioned, heavy, transformer-based, (not solid state) Made in the USA battery charger ??? At this point I'm ready to buy an old, used Lester charger on Ebay.. I'm sure it will last forever... Last edited by Kevin Panzino; 06-01-2014 at 09:59 PM. |

Interacter chargers are made in the USA and have a long history of reliability.
http://interacter.com/ Also, take a look at Rizk National Industries for solid USA made chargers: http://usabatterychargers.com/ Hope this helps. -Al

I bought my charger used off a friend for 10 dollars back in 1970, still use it for everything except the motorcycle. You're better off buying a rusty old charger at a garage sale than anything new.

Ditto on the charger. the timer on mine went out pretty early on. It's nothing compared to old fashioned chargers. I was hoping it would be a good one but alas nope.

I have 2 chargers.....One is an old Sears.... I just fixed it as the input AC cord broke.....Transformer....rectifier...and one small circuit board and some switches.......sticker inside said 1994.....20 years old and works perfect...I use it all the time and it sits on my racecar all the time, continuously all year!
I also have a Schumacher new type and rarely use it......don't trust it and can't stand it...Fans.....whizzers...lights.....says the battery is charged and I know it's not....It lies....LOL Both are small units with a 10-20 amp output....automatic charger-maintainers

I have a 10amp Schauer battery charger that I bought back in '78. Still works great, just slow charging for 2 Optima batteries. Was thinking of stepping up to a 20 or 30amp but I know the Optimas like a slow charge. Any suggestions? And by the way it was made in the USA even though at the time we only made junk and Japan supposedly built the good stuff.

I had a small Associated charger that worked good and I liked, but it broke twice inside my trailer towing to the races. I fixed it once, and when it broke again , it was done. I got a XS charger now that does 12v and 16 v and has worked perfectly for three years now.
