Default '84 or '91 Camaro for SS/GT Class car?

I am wanting to convert my Camaro from a bracket car to a Class car (have always had this in mind when I was slowly putting it together). I have all the parts to build it as an '84 or '91. I want to sell what I don't need but don't know which year is a better choice. Would you be able to offer suggestions.

Frank, I'm certainly no expert on this subject but I have reserched this subject as well and have a similar situation.I have a 1983 Camaro and when I was reserching which combination I wanted to run in the GT class I determined that even though I like the looks of other year Camaros better going by the NHRA classification guide when you are concerned with shipping weights my 1983 Camaro is the best choice.I'm sure more knowledgable people will chime in.Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. With the reading I've done as well that's what I thought but wanted to get the expert input. The '84 ship weight is about 100 lbs lighter than a '91 so I think that's my answer. If anyone else has suggestions send them.
Thanks, Frank

You did not mention weather your going with a 305 or 350, but you have more choices of combos, if you pick the later years. If you are ever thinking of going fuel Injection, then 85 to 91 would be your choice, as before that, they were mostly carbureted. That's " just incase" you would ever want to put it in traditional SS....

There is what appears to be a smokin' deal in the making on a 3rd generation F-body in the for Cars For Sale here. Buy it, sell yours. Maybe trade plus cash. I don't know anymore about the car than what I see posted but it looks like a quality SS/GT car and there's probably no way you could build your car for less.

If my memory is not totally gone I think the lightest Camaro of that vintage in SS/GT was the 87. Like already posted that would give you some more choices on the combinations it can be run as... I don't think it is a very good idea to lock in on a car that limits you to just one or two combinations. Your investment can become worthless if some fast guy blasts the index or it could cost you a lot to keep up and just race the index.
just my .02 :~)
