Default How can I make my new Challenger consistent?

Okay,so its not a legal stocker..sorry..but I figured this would still be the best place to ask. I am in the process of putting together a bracket/ s/street car but still a couple months away.So I've been having a lot of fun racing my 2010 Challenger R/T in the street class.I"ve actually gotten to where I can catch .040 lights with it pretty consistently.but the 60fts and ET,s are everywhere! Its a 2010 5.7 auto bone stock with diablo 93oct C.A.I. tune and a Mopar C.A.I. It has run a best of 8:43 in nice early spring weather and will slow all the way down to 9:20,s in hot weather I understand being faster in good conditions but I cant get close to repeating the same number within a 3-4 hr period
Some of these runs last Sat were riding the brake in competition so I finished them here for comparison. from TT #1 to runner up finish (3 rounds) 9:24 8:99 8:91 9:14 9:20 and its not spinning I can tell you one thing this car feels like it has a trailer hooked up first 100ft..then takes off.if I could get it to run the first 100ft it would FLY.

change to a high stall torque converter and rear end ratio if you can ( 4.10 gear ) and headers...just for starter...all depend how much money you want to spend...Luke SS311

I wonder if the drive by wire has anything to do with it. do the dragpacks come this way or are they mechanical? I have often wondered about some of these new cars being this way, my Nissan will not repeat worth a darn, wonder if all that computer control stuff is to blame....

I use the heat gun on my intake on 07 Hemi Magnum. Keep track of that and use the digital gauge in dash for water temp. Ive done ok with mine being stock with diablo 91 octane tune, everything else stock. 19 lbs in street tires. one decent burnout 13.10 in good air and 13.30 in heat. 1/4 mile stuff. Also with stock converter you can go as high as 1750 rpm, but 1500 rpm works best for me. If you have wheel spin use your programmer to retard timing in the low rpm range. It helps.

This car doesnt have a digital temp readout guess I can upgrade to the Diablo trinity. has digital readouts for temp, oil pressure, etc
does your car have traction control or ESP? you turn those off or on?

Im not positive about some of the newer models, but I found out, by others and it did work. When you drive to the track, shut it off, and let it cool, a little. not cold, like after tech. Then when you crank it for the first time run, DONT shut it of again. They are designed to run warmer than older cars. This way computer wont recycle, as it would if you shut it off after each run. I could park my truck against a wall for 2 hrs and it wouldnt get any hoter. That was only way, I could get close to dialing it in, and count on it to be close. Try it, it might work on yours, it might not.

I don't think you will get a computer controlled car to be consistent. It is constantly adjusting for engine temp, fuel/air ratio, timing, knock, etc. I raced my Jeep Grand Cher. with some success but I never got it to be consistent. The air got better and it slowed down, the air got worse and it sped up. That's not the way it's should work. LOL Maybe some of these guys suggestions will help.

Losing 8 tenths like that could be the anti-knock sensor kicking in, which retards the timing on the fly.

The fix could be as simple as getting a tank full of higher octane gas. Or maybe retard the timing with your Diablo, and dial slower all the time.

hopefully your not running street tires. i ran hoosier drag radials on my 300. here are a couple of tips for you.

leave ESP on, at least until you can get the car consistant
use drag radials
let car idle in lanes before each round to get to constant temp

maybe post a few slips for us to look at

good luck
