I'm considering making my '70 Dart a stocker. I would like to get a radial stocker tire under it. I realize I'll have to have the front of the wheel opening enlarged an inch and 1/2 or so.
Anyone run a Dart in stock? What size wheel and offset do you use? Which tire and size? Can you use the offset spring hangers that mount in the stock location? I'm new to the board, but I've bracket raced for a number of years. Any input would be great. Thanks Jeff |

9.0/30 Goodyear Radial 93 Cir. No Offset Bracket needed or allowed. 15x10 Wheel with 5 Back. A Body Width Rear. Calvert makes a special narrow spring for that appl. but not absolutely necessary if lip is trimmed.

Thanks
I wouldn't of thought you could get a 10 inch rim in there. |

10 works for use best....could run 9 with 4.5 back or 8.5 with 4 1/4. Plan to spend a few hours on lip and front of fenderwell.

I asked almost the same question ('69 not '70) last year, I'm still amazed that a 10" wheel will fit with a stocker tire.

I have run a 70 swinger in IHRA pure stock for a couple of years.
I have used a MT 9 x 28 with an 8 inch rim and 4.5 inch back space. I am using the Luneak springs, standard width and have trimmed the wheel well lip to the edge of the outer panel and the wheel opening about 1" in the front. From what clearance I have, I would be surprised if you could fit a much bigger tire, but I haven't tried. I have about a quarter inch on each side and even with that, I have rubbed the spring. I have heard about the thin Calvert springs, which may gain half an inch. I would just hate to buy a wheel / tire and find out it doesn't fit. MT also makes a 29.5 x 9 inch radial, which is what I wanted to try. I have thought about the offset hangers. I didn't think there would be an issue with that. I have seen several swingers in stock that have the big tires, I figured they were using the offset hangers. I have never had much issue with traction with my set up, but I have only run 12.90's on the 13:10 index. I would like to fit a bigger tire, but like I said, I don't want to buy something and not have it fit. I will give it a try soon. Another thing to consider is, there are not many options for the swinger if you run a regular stock class. The 340 is the biggest engine, then the 318 and the slant 6. Not many options. If you are going to run a crate engine, that may be an option. I am going to try that next. I don't think I can build a 340 to run that good, my biggest issue is carb tuning knowledge ( and time to figure it out). Hope this helps. Mike Coates IHRA 5914

I have the same tires on my car(28x9 M/T ET Drags). I run the Centerline 15x81/2 with 47/8 BS. I have offset hangers and have enough room with ss springs. I have a 3/8" spacer in front of front spring hanger..no rubbing. I have the inside off the quarter panel flatened. I want to run a 29.5x9 radial stocker tire and I know I'll have to mod the front of the wheel opening by about an inch or so. I don't believe I could fit these tires without the offset hangers.
I will try to borrow a friends old slick on my wheel when I get a chance. |

Work a little bit on fender lip .... I just like the 10 inch rim, but lots of guys use 8/9 in stock. Calvert makes a slick new one piece narrow leaf specifically for that application... I do not think it is much more money than SS springs. We make sure all tolerances are---- "favorable" on assembly and run the wider older Calvert Springs on our stuff. I believe the offset hanger is only about 3/4 (.800) difference. You can try offset Hangers and see if you get thru tech.....I would hate to drive 2000 miles for a race and get sent home. I KNOW that tech is not the same as 10 years ago but it would not work in those days.
