Default Moroso Front Trick Drag Spring - 66 Impala?

Anybody know what the part number is for a Moroso Trick Drag Spring for the front with a SBC? Don't see one listed in their catalog and wondering if there is another one that will work? Thanks in advance!

I have tried Morosos in a 66 A body and found them to sag over time, and Moroso is not forthcoming with detailed specs to help cross-apply their parts to different applications.
OTOH, I have been happy with Moog coils and have the specs on them. For your car, I suggest looking at these springs/specs, for a 66 6 cylinder Impala, or similar with 3.812" I.D.:

#6190; .63 wire; 11.75" load height; 1546 load; 290 lb/in; 17.07" free height

#662A; .64; 11.75; 1906; 272; 18.74

#6080; .59; 10.5; 1214;272;14.96

#6246; .59; 10.5; 1365; 272; 15.51
Other springs from Moog run 308-414 lb/inch so probably wouldn't work well with a SBC. I don't know how many of the above are still available. Surprisingly, Amazon.com sells Moog springs often at a good price. I used the Moog Oct. 1981 catalog.

Moroso, does not make springs for an Impala Or B body Gm. Is it a big block or small block car??

It is a SBC bar. The car has 1" Drop coil springs in it now (front and rear) but unsure of what rate. Removed front sway bar to help weight transfer. I was hoping to find a spring to help pick the front end up better to plant the rears better. There are some other options I still have for shocks was just trying to find other options for springs for now.

Cool Re: Moroso Front Trick Drag Spring - 66 Impala?

The best thing to do with a car not in the current Moroso or anybody else's catalog is to go by vehicle weight. That works pretty well with station wagons being the exception due to the weight bias. Moroso springs settle after a while, dropping the ride height a few inches, then weight transfer is impared.Fortunately, a 65-70 B body big car uses a spring dimensionally close to a Chevelle. If the '66 is a 2 door, like my old P/SA,it weighed 3690 with driver. A 66 Chevelle wagon weighed about the same, so a 327 A/C spring from the Moog catalogue probably would be dead nuts from that application. In our 68 Chevelle wagon,I used a big block spring, it set the car a bit high, but over the years, it has settled in about right.I used a 70 Chevelle big block rear spring and some gas shocks, and the car's suspension has been nearly trouble free since I built it 14 years ago.Six cylinder applications are not always advantageous-- the old 235 cubic inch 6 from 1962 on back, especially with a cast iron Powerglide in actuality probably weighed as much or more than a 348 or a 409. It definitely outweighed a 327 by 200 or so pounds. Shocks, bushing material and chassis preload, as well as other factors have as much to do with how the car works as anything else.On a Chevelle, the right rear spring is as critical as the left front in how those work, the 66 probably isn't much different in that regard.

Chevelle and other A body front springs are 3.625" ID vs. 3.812" for the Impala, so I'd rather get the right diameter if possible. I also like to get the spring rate before worring so much about load. You can cut a coil if need be--usually it is best to cut about 3/8 coil from each end so both ends fit completely into the pocket in the frame and A arm, on the old design tangential coils where the pockets are formed for the end of the coil. On A bodies at least, full coil plus 2" more seems best. If need be you can get an aluminum global West spacer to put into the A arm if the coil spring is too short. you seem to get a factor of 2 or 3 meaning a 1/2" spacer will change ride height 1-1.5". Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help guys, you truly are a wealth of knowledge. Here is the pic of the current stance. It has 26" tall front tire with 1-1.5" drop coil and 2" drop spindles. The rear is currently getting a Ford 9" and QA1 coil over setup for more ride height and chassis adjustments (still stock suspension and has adjustable upper control arms) with a 28" tall rear tire. Granted this isn't a Stock or Super Stock car but I know you guys could be of great assistance for this project I have for a Drag Radial Class. Does anyone feel that it would be better to run a 27" or 28" tall front tire to help raise the front up some besides using a different spring? I haven't scaled the car yet but plan to soon before I make the changes. Just really looking for a direction to shoot for.

So if the 327 A/C springs is best suited for me, what is that Moog part number?

Moog 6192 is 308 lb/inch. You should try different combinations and see what the car likes. Personally, I'd start with light rate 270 lb/inch for good weight transfer, and 80/20 or 90/10 shocks to keep the front up for a bit once it rises. Tall tires give more roll out; use the suspension to keep the front low (static) and get more travel upwards (6" + if possible with good alignment geometry through the travel).

A while back Jeff Lee (SS/H AMX) talked about a place that will custom make springs
for any application. He may be able to direct to them
