Car/motor/class question
Can I put a class legal race hemi in a 65 coronet hard top and fit into a super stock class? Like modified or an X class?

Re: Car/motor/class question
you will be in a GT class. In superstock now you can run any engine in your car, but has to be of the same make of course.

Re: Car/motor/class question
I believe, to the best of my knowledge, all the factory '65 Plymouth/Dodge Hemi cars were post cars. There are a few '64 hardtop Hemis. You would have to check with someone who would know better than I do.

Re: Car/motor/class question
Thanks for the replies guys. Can you run hood scoops in gt classes? And does anyone know off the top of their head what gt class a 65 dodge coronet hardtop would be In with a hemi. It would basicly be a ss/aa car that's a hardtop insted of a post.

Re: Car/motor/class question
If it would fit ,the car would have to weigh 4170 plus to make it into GT/AA.

Re: Car/motor/class question
If the engine used, in a GT configuration, came with ram-air/hood scoop, yes it's permited. If not, then no. Case in point. 1998 Firebird with a 1997 LS-1 engine in GT = hood scoop allowed. 1998 Firebird with a 1969 Chevy 350/295 = scoop must be blocked off, or flat hood used. As ss3011 said, the weight break for GT/AA is 8 pounds, same as SS/EA. 4,170 pound GT/AA car, using a Race Hemi @ 500 HP. There are better engine options out there to use, I'd think. The 1970 Dodge 383 looks good, 330 factory, but NHRA rated at 304. Staci Smith has one in a '93 Daytona, runs 9.60's. Talk to Jeff Tueton, I think he and Sid Bonnecarrere use a 383 or smaller motor in SS/GT in a '68 Cuda, with the factory SS/AH-type hood scoop (I think it's a 360 in GT/FA).

Re: Car/motor/class question
What if I wanted to run this combination in a modified class? Anyone know if I can?

Re: Car/motor/class question
You can run the car in modified, A is 7.5 X CID. Bob Marshall runs an older Dodge in Modified sometimes. It opens the scoop/intake to other choices as well as alum Mopar heads.
Think the single 4 race hemi is a post only in the Dodge but a post or hardtop in the Plymouth. Strange. As far as the hoodscoop in GT , I was told by Bruce Bachelder that a scoop can't be added to a car, it had to be available with one so since your 65 hardtop was not available with a scoop you can't run a scoop in GT. A 383 shaker can use the scoop in the 68 Cuda and Dart but not the Valiant. Thats the last I heard.

Re: Car/motor/class question
Looks like it would have to be a modified class car. Doesn't look like it would fit any gt class. We have a motor and a car. We just need to put the cage in the car. It would probably be pretty slow for a modified class car though. But I really just wanna bracket race it. Not looking to win class. I'm guessing it would run 9.50's with that motor in it. Most mods run in the 8's don't they?

Re: Car/motor/class question
I'm not sure if it would fit mod either. Dang it!!! Looks like I'll have to build the 383 up for ss/ja.
