Default Ford guy questions about 429s

A friend of mine used to have a 70 Ford Torino GT. He still has the original 429 SCJ and Auto Trans. He says it is complete with shaker hood scoop. The trans has SCJ on the bellhousing also. Single 4 bbl car. He does want to sell it. I have no clue what it is worth and neither does he, but is looking for a fair price to move it out of the garage. Any ideas what to look for? It is an original engine, not rebuilt. It ran fine but would need a rebuild. It has been stored inside his garage for years. I think he may have the title for the old car, but the car is long gone. Any suggestions or interest, let me know. Jim

The Shaker scoop is most likely worth as much as the engine.

These would be pretty rare parts, price of course depends upon who "really" needs/wants them at the time of selling. Had a few friends who had the 351C versions of the 71 with shaker hood, but only one 429. If the Air Cleaner has the air snorkel as well, it is worth a good bit more.
I don't think these have been repoped yet.

Make sure it has the real CJ heads, look for the D00E casting. The block should be cast with DOVE on the L/front of the block on the bulk head.

Thanks. I told him to take some pictures and write down casting numbers. Jim

I have a friend that has an original boss 429 Mach 1 (Huron, SD) and he has had offers up to $250K but I'd say at least $100, 000 if it's in mint condition for the whole car. I think his is a one owner (and needs work). I rode in it many moons ago. I agree with k.pascoe. The D00E rings a bell... I think he said the heads alone bring $20,000 in good shape.

There is a lot of difference between the Boss 429 motor and a 429 Cobra Jet. If it has a shaker on it is is a Cobra Jet. If everything is there, shaker, carb, valve covers, exhaust manifolds, bellhousing, shifter 3500.00 to 4500.00 or what ever someone is willing to pay, but as a friend of mine says it is my opinion and it doesnt cost anything and probably worth every cent of it.

Yes, this is the market ballpark. EBay would be the best place to sell.
