Is anyone running a 84 cutlass 305 4 brl combo?
In 1984 could you order a 84 cutlass 305 that had flat top pistons ? or will they all have to be dished ? is this combo a natural K/SA ? I am hoping this motor will allow me to bracket race week in and week out. as well as hit some Division 6 divisional races and national open races. I have a few more questions as I am new to the stock eliminator game. If anyone is running this combo let me know and i will PM you. Thanks Craig Johnson. |

Looking at NHRA specs is a natural K combination. It is a dish piston 305. No flat top combination available in that year. Good combination. Did you ever get your suspension worked out?

Kenny Wigington runs one, maybe he will chime in. I think the 307 Olds is a better combo.

Ya it was working alright once i put the "iceman" 12 bolt uppers in. I still had the stock lowers, and i was running "cargo coils" in the back for the 30 tall tires to clear. wasnt launching the way i wanted it to, the way it was set up allowed a 1.734 60' with only a 2400 converter. and better yet i won the track championship with this setup. |

Hey,
I do run that combo. It is a K, and if I had more time to really work on it, I could do better with it. Yes, you can bracket race it, but with it being a small cube motor, its not as consistant as say a 400+ bracket motor. Weather will have its effects on any engine, but it seems to be, to me, a little more affected. They are durable. If I spent some money and some serious time, I could make it go 1 under, but with all thats goin on, it'll have to be content at 70 or so. Just know that the 305 combo's , all of them have had the sh_t run out of them, so if you are looking at being in the top ten qualifiers, look elsewhere. There are a few of us hardheaded individuals that run this combo, but as Alan said, I may have been better served to stay with the 307 Olds.... I have thought about that more than once. If you want, PM me, and I will be glad to share ...some... things ! I learned a while back, that these guys you see and hear about, have all worked on the thier combos , so that they do run hard, and with the work involved, you dont just give it out ! You earn it! That being said, I loved Stockers before I got this one, and still do, probably even more, now. Its all in the challenge ahead! Just know how deep it is, when you're ready to dive in !!

Thanks guys, I think I am going to stick with the 305 combo because as Bob was saying, parts are cheaper, and easier to come by.
PM's sent ! |

The bolt on one is legal. I use the HR Bar.
