I am looking for opinions as to whether I buy the kit offered by various companies or allow the installer to custom build it. If my memory serves me right I thought the guy that installed the cage kit in my camaro yrs. ago complained that some of it didn't fit well. It was long ago, he is no longer in business, and I don't trust my memory. S&W Racecars is offering free shipping for a couple days, so I am contemplating buying the kit now. Opinions appreciated.

I've bought two cages from S&W and been pleased with both the only problem I had was when the installer decided to make changes.
My third cage from them is sitting on the living room floor waiting to go to the shop....it's great being a bachelor! Jim

Unless you have really unique ideas and insist on implementing them, why re-invent the wheel? S&W make good, well engineered parts. Every kit requires some finesse. The engine is no different

I put an S&W kit with the optional rear bars passing through the rear parcel shelf to retain the back seat in my 67 Chevelle and it fit PERFECTLY!!!!!!! It looks like it could have come from the factory. The main hoop touches the headliner and by tipping the main hoop forward there was enough room to weld the top of the hoop. The main hoop comes within 1/4 inch of rear side panel. I had the side bars bent down to front frame rails to make it fit and still keep the front arm rests. The folks at S&W are very friendly and accommodating and for sure the first people I would call in the future. Hope this helps.

I got the CM kit from ART in Florida and it was completely up to my expectations, good price. The only fitment issue would be the main hoop and they will check their plans against your measurements to be sure it is right. My application was a bit unusual (66-442) and they custom bent me a hoop to fit, since their Chevelle pattern was a little different, same price. They notch the ends of the straight tubes, but I ground them because I was using odd angles to put the bars where i wanted them, so I can't comment on the quality of their notches. You want a very close fit for CM/TIG welding so plan to take time for careful fitting.

I am glad to know S&W sells quality items. I have no prior experience with them. The afore mentioned cage did not come from S&W. In fact I don't remember who I bought it from. I am remembering the installer complaining I wasted money, and charged me for some extra cm pieces. I was hoping to get some feed from a few chassis guys that may lurk here.....good place to lurk! If not I guess I will pass on the free shipping, since I am not ready for the cage, and wait until I know who'll be installing it and get their opinion. I do appreciate S&W's commitment to stock eliminator.

Hey, I'm an old stocker guy from way back. Held the F/S record for a short while back in the mid 70's too.
I appreciate all the kind words from everyone - we'll keep trying. Thanks |
