Newbie car recommendations?

Ok, I've been asking alot of questions lately, and someday I hope to be of help to some of you, but until I can, here's another question:

Let's say a newbie to Stock came to you, asking what kind of car/combo you'd recommend to a rookie, what would you tell them, besides buying a used car. We'll say the guy is well-inclined, has bracket racing experience, so he's not toally green; has the tools, space, and some cash, what kind of car and combo would you tell them to look into?

I think I know what I'm going to do, but I like looking at all the info and advice, and maybe someone will bring up a point that would help me, or better yet, other newcomers...
