I am thinking about building a 67 mustang for stock eliminator. I don't know a great deal about it other than the very basics. My car is a coupe and I was wanting to build a 390 car. What class could i run with that combo.
I was looking for any tips or suggestions to help get me started. Maybe some suggestions of people that I could contact that could help me out. I live in Virginia, and I called a couple of local machine shops about discussing a motor for stock and they had NO clue. I know I am not going to go out there the first year and set the would on fire just looking to put a mild combo together to get my feet wet, something that will run maybe .5 under. As you can see any help would be greatly appreciated. |

68 coupe,
Get to your closest race track and talk to any guys running Fords in Stock & S/S..Next talk to the current guys running Fords in div 1 & 2...Guys like Bill Hawk, Evan Smith, Duane Eiskant 11 & Tex Miller, Ken Meile to name a few.. Don't spend any $$$$ till you have some idea on what class and engine you can run.. Join NHRA and get a rule book & read it, contact your Div.1 tech guy and pick his brain on combo's.. Good Luck, Dave

Good combo. You would run C, D or E. Dave Toren runs exactly that combo and is very quick.
The best Ford FE guy on the planet is Blair Patrick, located near Chattanooga TN. 423-837-1514. Do it once, and do it right. Vic and I both run '71 429SCJ Mustangs. I always run D while Vic likes to move his around. Good luck.

Question for Bill and Vic and others running big block fords.
Are most of you running a 2.75 1st gear. What rear end gear do you run. I assume most are running 30" Radials, what kind of 60ft times do you normally have. |
