Default 1970 Nova with 307/195hp

Has anyone toyed with this combination in stock (O/SA or P/SA)? Not a common combination but just wondering if anyone has had any luck going under the index with it? If so, any suggestions?

I have a customer who ran that for a while. I think about 3-4 tenths under is as good as he did with it. There are a lot better combinations for a Nova.

thanks for the response, I have heard it to be a bad combination from alot of people. I posted a new thread. Maybe you or someone can help with some 350 options...I think that would put the nova in M/SA or K/SA depending on a 2 barrel or 4 barrel combination...I am new to this though so I could easily be wrong.

I looked at this combo (307/2bbl) myself to get my feet wet in Stock but in speaking with Billy Nees he said that the carb was too small to really work. He was helping out a guy who was running this combo but I think the guy gave up on it. I think a few years ago, Bobby Lundholm(sp) D-2, was running the 350/2bbl with success.

It was my dad that was running the 350 with 2 barrell. We took it to the Montgomery open when they had it around Thanksgiving and ran low 12's in mineshaft air. I still have the 2 barrell manifold if anyone is interested in it.

Well, like I said I am new to this stuff but I am trying to get a successful combination together for my nova and I just wanted to know what was out there to buy or build myself.

You know, Billy Nees has been running the 307-2bbl. in his 4 door '70 Nova in R/SA. He has gone more than 4 under without really diving hard into the combo. I know it's been pretty consistant. That and his string of double O lights, he's gone deep into the eliminations at a couple of points meets.

I run my car as a 72 (307/175) which would be the combo to do as the 70 and 72 are basically the same except for 20 less HP. It has gone a bit more than .5 under and it is a good "bracket" car but the bottom line is the carb is just too small to ever go really fast. If I did get "serious" with it I think that it could be about an .8 under car but that's about it.

Question Re: 1970 Nova with 307/195hp

Billy you have a 3 speed in the car yet? I'm going to work on getting the 68 with a powerglide only reduced...so maybe it ( dads 4-door) can fit T/SA.
