Default 1969 440 six pack Superbee & Road Runner.

So did any of you own or know who had one of these 69 440 six pack Superbee's or 69 440 six barrel Road Runner's back in the late 60's or early 70's.

The first one I ever saw was owned by a father and son team from Pevely, MO and looked the the car in the ad other than the fender turn signals. I remember we all thought the hood was too cool to be real but none of us could figure out the black wheels and especially the chrome lug nuts. To me, it was sort of like running wide whitewalls on a set of Cragar SS wheels.

It didn't stay stock very long at all, probably not more than a month. Even though the son would occasionally cruise/street race the car it couldn't have racked up very many miles. I'm thinking it was no longer street legal by mid to late summer of 69. We raced AHRA at the time and I don't think it ever competed in Stock, but went into either Production or Super Stock right off the bat. It got headers, slicks, a BIG camshaft, and some serious lightweighting.

The car was very competitive but just about the time they got the car set up the way they wanted, a guy started racing a SS454 with a Bo Laws engine and that Chevelle gave them fits.

The father was a real Mopar guy and owned probably the nicest Hemi GTX I've ever seen. As I remember it was a 67 and had been owned by the wife of another Mopar racer just across the river in Illinois. The last time I saw it was in the late 70s and everyone thought he was crazy asking $6000 even if it did only have 18k miles and had never been modified in any way.

Where's my time machine?

My brother had one as early as 1970. A 69 Super Bee Orange Post car.
He ran 12.66 @ 110.97 at OCIR. Stock with small 1 5/8 Headers and
7" JC Penney Slicks.. .....Had a big 12 Inch conveter that stalled about
1500 RPM an was SLOW in 60. Car was a B of A repo and might not of
had the original trans.or converter.
He paid $ 1066. at a Repo Auction with no wheels or alternator but running.
I have owned 3 A92 Roadrunner and a Superbee but first one was 73/74
that I bought from a Paul Caruso (sic). It set B/S National record @ 11.21
and 119.20 on 7 inch slicks as I recall. Does anyone have NHRA Records
from back in those days. Also had a 70 ply RR Six pack that Abe Lobwen (sic)
bought from me at 75 Winters.

I remember the 440 6-Barrel intakes were aluminum.

Until one day, a guy brought in a cast iron unit to my fathers shop
for cleaning and glass-beading.

When were the cast iron units installed, on the early 6-Barrels or
the later ones.

Hi, my dad owned one purchased new through Tekoa Motors Washington. I am trying to find my dad's 69 440 6 bbl Road Runner. I m in Spokane Washington. A guy by the first name Steve I think?? (A Mopar Collector) may have ended up with the motor out of it. He could have been the buyer at the time it was sold around 1983 in Spokane. He is from what I understand a Western Canadian Mopar Racer from the 60's 70's 80's but may have passed away some time ago. He may have raced in Spokane Washington with several other Canadian racers years ago 1970's and 1980's. I was told they (Him or a Friend) bought the car in about 1983 range here in Spokane Washington took it home pulled the 440 6 bbl motor and auto trans and put it in another race car they had at the time. It is possible the body was sold and may have had a 383 put in it. The story goes that it was wreaked and ended up being junked out in a wreaking yard some where in Western Canada. However never confirmed. The vin is RM23-M9A-280114. Lynch Road Assy plant. Originally a Frost Green F3 I think was the color but was painted WHITE when bought in Spokane in about 1983. Black interior auto on the column. Here are some codes I have as well A12 440 6BBL D34 TRANS D69 AXLE D91 SURE GRIP J25 WIPER N51 COOL PACKAGE N65 FAN R11 AM RADIO S15 POLICE PKG Y39 SPECIAL ORDER Any help would be wonderful. I would like to locate any part of this car motor trans body hood what ever may be left. I have a restored 383 69 Road Runner but would love to have my dad's who passed in 2001. The guy who sold the car in Spokane in about 1983 name is Wayne Hansen.
Thanks, Dave

Pro-streeter,
There is a great site for the lift off hood cars, the A12 Registry. If you join and tell your story, someone there might be able to help you.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have posted there and several other Mopar related sites. Did get one response with no result so far.

Having the Vin number will be the biggest help on A12 Registery at: http://sixpacksixbbl.homestead.com You mention the car being raced out of Canada will be the problem, import tax, and the biggest is these folks up north in the last few years have become Mopar crazy. At Mopars at the Strip in Vegas if the vehicles for sale were in good shape or good parts for sale - a high percentage were sold to them. I asked several of these folks how come you guys are buying everything you can, running up bids and have nothing to sell? Most remarks were Mopars are hot in Canada like Chevy were years ago down here. We don't sell anything Mopar. I sold a car on 'racejunk.com' had guys in the US want to make payments (tire kickers), then a guy pops up from Canada buys the how setup, car, extra motor, parts, enclosed trailer - everything. He paid $40K for the car alone and that cost him for the total package in Canadian taxes $12K to get it home. He didn't even blink I'm by the transport driver at the border in New York.
