The first one I ever saw was owned by a father and son team from Pevely, MO and looked the the car in the ad other than the fender turn signals. I remember we all thought the hood was too cool to be real but none of us could figure out the black wheels and especially the chrome lug nuts. To me, it was sort of like running wide whitewalls on a set of Cragar SS wheels.

It didn't stay stock very long at all, probably not more than a month. Even though the son would occasionally cruise/street race the car it couldn't have racked up very many miles. I'm thinking it was no longer street legal by mid to late summer of 69. We raced AHRA at the time and I don't think it ever competed in Stock, but went into either Production or Super Stock right off the bat. It got headers, slicks, a BIG camshaft, and some serious lightweighting.

The car was very competitive but just about the time they got the car set up the way they wanted, a guy started racing a SS454 with a Bo Laws engine and that Chevelle gave them fits.

The father was a real Mopar guy and owned probably the nicest Hemi GTX I've ever seen. As I remember it was a 67 and had been owned by the wife of another Mopar racer just across the river in Illinois. The last time I saw it was in the late 70s and everyone thought he was crazy asking $6000 even if it did only have 18k miles and had never been modified in any way.

Where's my time machine?

My brother had one as early as 1970. A 69 Super Bee Orange Post car.
He ran 12.66 @ 110.97 at OCIR. Stock with small 1 5/8 Headers and
7" JC Penney Slicks.. .....Had a big 12 Inch conveter that stalled about
1500 RPM an was SLOW in 60. Car was a B of A repo and might not of
had the original trans.or converter.
He paid $ 1066. at a Repo Auction with no wheels or alternator but running.
I have owned 3 A92 Roadrunner and a Superbee but first one was 73/74
that I bought from a Paul Caruso (sic). It set B/S National record @ 11.21
and 119.20 on 7 inch slicks as I recall. Does anyone have NHRA Records
from back in those days. Also had a 70 ply RR Six pack that Abe Lobwen (sic)
bought from me at 75 Winters.

I remember the 440 6-Barrel intakes were aluminum.

Until one day, a guy brought in a cast iron unit to my fathers shop
for cleaning and glass-beading.

When were the cast iron units installed, on the early 6-Barrels or
the later ones.

Had a good friend of mine bought a1970 roadrunner with the 440 six pack and a 4 speed and 4:10 rear new in the spring of 70. He also liked to go and have a few on Saturday nights. A few times he reached the point of giving me the keys as he had to many. Very interesting car to drive with the vacuum linkage on the end carbs. Go to pass someone in a leiserly manor and the end carbs would flop wide open. Scare the **** out of you. He later changed the linkage to progressive mechanical. That was something I always remembered about 440 six -paks.

I can remember a Butterscotch color 1969 1/2 Super Bee, street-racer only.

Everytime he punched it, it sounded like an industrial vacuum cleaner.
WHOOOOM!!!

Once he street-raced a 70' Ford Cobra with the 429 Super Cobra-Jet.

When both those cars kicked in,,,,the air-sucking sound was unbelievable.

Those were fun days,,,:D
