What is the difference between a early GM transistorized ignition coil,and a regular points coil?

I've had the pertronix conversion in my 283 57 Chevy for about 8 years now. All original parts reused except for the conversion kit. Very simple install.

Different windings. Points allow for a longer buildup of energy due to their mechanical and relatively slow open-close process. The transistorized ignitions used a much shorter dwell interval and were wound to build voltage quicker.
