GM points to electronic distributor conversion

Im trying to copy a conversion i saw on the internet that converts a Gm points distributors to electronic(street applications) by using a chrysler reluctor, and pick up coil, and a GM 4 pin module mounted under the distributor. What coil could you use for this?Would a hi per accel coil for non HEI work? thanks

I believe Accel also has a conversion unit. Both are supposed to be good parts.

A canister coil will work, but an even better option is the electronic coil from a late 80's on up EFI Ford. They are cheap and around 40,000 volts from the factory.

Hey Lyn,
Are you referring to Dave's Small Body HEI distributors: http://www.davessmallbodyheis.com/

If so, they use a normal GM 12Volt Coil.

Re: GM points to electronic distributor conversion

The Accel and Pertronix conversions are designed to fit in the original point distributor so it looks stock. Actually the Ford Coil is a good pick because it isn't an oil cooled unit like the MSD Blaster. Get the wire harness from any junk yard, buy a new unit and you are good to go.

There is also a Mallory Unilite Conversion, that I have used in the past.

I just put a Pertronix conversion in a Ford distributer .
Took all of about 15 min. Fit perfect , works great .

I've been using the Crane XRI Kit since they came out with them.
They work great!

I use pertronix Ignitor III on restorations has a protection circuit built in that protects it from burning up and has adjustable built in rev limiter, and installs easier than a set of points, which is easy.
Has anyone had the experience of being considered a automotive genius, because you can install a set of points,or build a carb.LOL
