If I recall the deal right, Fox is providing air time and tech staff but NHRA is responsible for the production. If true, that's the problem here.

NHRA owns All Access at $100 a pop and is holding the Sportsman fan hostage by the wallet. They seem to think that if they don't give us Sportsman coverage then we will pay for it. Spectator admission aka All Access to Real Racers and their Real Race Cars is between $10 and $15 at Pacific Raceway and Bremerton International Raceway. And the fresh air and sunburn is free of charge. The couch or the pits, take your pick.

It seems that FS1 is getting it's lead from NHRA - they really do believe that the "sportsman" run alky and everybody else is just filler. Sucks. NHRA isn't getting any more of my money.

Exactly my feelings on the matter. It would appear that 'filler' doesn't even rate a single run down the track. I was so sick of interviews and taped segments I almost turned it back to baseball.

All I can surmise is this: what all of the gas-powered Sportsman classes do must be a type of racing so enormously difficult and impossible to understand that it can't be shown on TV and the commentators apparently can't explain it to the type of people who would tune in and watch a drag racing program to begin with.
Yeah...rrrright....

I agree 100%!!
What is even more ridiculous: They devoted a segment of the Gainesville show to have Bruno explain the .90 classes. Explained how a throttle stop works using Bertozzi's dragster. Still they can't even show the finals from anything but Alcohol???

They should explain Comp, SS & Stock Eliminators as well.
Maybe 1 segment they might give it a whirl, after all Bruno did run Stock Elim.

Motor Mania is free and has a lot of coverage and commentary. Div 3 runs a broadcast with commentary from the tower, and free.

Cool Re: FS1 Gainesville Sportsmen Coverage

I almost died from surprise when Bruno explained the trans brake and throttle stop function for the Super Class cars but, it would have been better to have tied it in with some on-track video and maybe used an actual Super Comp or Super Gas car for the demo instead of a Top Dragster with a Nitrous bottle (no offense intended Anthony!).
Better than nothing I guess. Keep trying FS1....

Thumbs up for Bruno. I think he needs to be kicked up the ladder a few spots. He is so much more articulate than Tony P. is. I'm not a truck guy but I still like to watch Truck U and Garage Squad just because he is so informative and engaging. Bruno explained a throttle stop and Tony explained wheelbase on a dragster - and converted inches to feet...My wife knows what a wheelbase is...

I was in the stands for the NorthWest Nationals a few years back and the guy next to me was confused as heck by the .90 classes. He needed a major education on how the cars are built for speed and driven for time with flat out starts, backed off throttles and nailed peddles at half track. Same for the handicapped classes with slower cars getting a lead on the tree. People not already familiar with drag racing come to the track with limited knowledge of the sport as a heads up game and need to be educated by NHRA as to all of the fine details that go on beyond the smoke and thunder of the nitro classes.

This is where the big Fail is, in my opinion.
