I agree 100%!!
What is even more ridiculous: They devoted a segment of the Gainesville show to have Bruno explain the .90 classes. Explained how a throttle stop works using Bertozzi's dragster. Still they can't even show the finals from anything but Alcohol???

They should explain Comp, SS & Stock Eliminators as well.
Maybe 1 segment they might give it a whirl, after all Bruno did run Stock Elim.

Motor Mania is free and has a lot of coverage and commentary. Div 3 runs a broadcast with commentary from the tower, and free.

Cool Re: FS1 Gainesville Sportsmen Coverage

I almost died from surprise when Bruno explained the trans brake and throttle stop function for the Super Class cars but, it would have been better to have tied it in with some on-track video and maybe used an actual Super Comp or Super Gas car for the demo instead of a Top Dragster with a Nitrous bottle (no offense intended Anthony!).
Better than nothing I guess. Keep trying FS1....

Thumbs up for Bruno. I think he needs to be kicked up the ladder a few spots. He is so much more articulate than Tony P. is. I'm not a truck guy but I still like to watch Truck U and Garage Squad just because he is so informative and engaging. Bruno explained a throttle stop and Tony explained wheelbase on a dragster - and converted inches to feet...My wife knows what a wheelbase is...

I was in the stands for the NorthWest Nationals a few years back and the guy next to me was confused as heck by the .90 classes. He needed a major education on how the cars are built for speed and driven for time with flat out starts, backed off throttles and nailed peddles at half track. Same for the handicapped classes with slower cars getting a lead on the tree. People not already familiar with drag racing come to the track with limited knowledge of the sport as a heads up game and need to be educated by NHRA as to all of the fine details that go on beyond the smoke and thunder of the nitro classes.

This is where the big Fail is, in my opinion.

Dale you nailed it. Sportsman racers want to see the sportsman racers because they understand it. They get all the in's and out's of the races and why the front end of the leader nose dives at the end before the finish line. As boring as the .90 classes are, the more you learn about them and what goes into them, they actually become more interesting. But to the common folk who just go to see the top fuel guys, they are as lost as ever. But just imagine what would transpire if the uneducated got some quick tips and lessons via FS1 during the down time, we might see an influx in new faces at the track. Seeing a 69 Camaro on the rear bumper will get some people on the edge of their seat, as will copo's that look similar to Camaro's people drive by every day on their way to work.

It is very possible that NHRA does not want to show sportsman racers during the live broadcast of the pro's simply because people will stop wanting to watch the pro's. I know people are bored with Pro Stock, even though those cars are works of art and the time that goes into building them would make someone's head spin. Bruno is the perfect guy to commentate AND educate the masses on sportsman racing. He can dumb it down for the most simplest of minds and possibly entice people to go out and try and build a car. Lets be honest, the stock/super stock guys are some of the nicest people I've met at the track, as long as your genuine and have some sort of knowledge base of the sport, and if you want to build a class car, going to a points meet or national event and asking questions is the best way to build a sense of what to do.

I thought that was a little funny because he was showing (Anthony's I think) top dragster entry. I noticed the N20 bottle, which is not allowed in any t-stop category. Could have been a little misleading to someone thinking about learning the class...
All said and done, I enjoy watching Bruno and all sportsman air time we can get!

FS 1 gets an F for it's coverage of the "Sportsman " class . More to the class than just alky cars.

Maybe the best way to ensure coverage of ALL the Sportsman is to contact the real people who pay for it .The Sponsors
I for one will not purchase any products from the shows sponsors for not covering what I would like to see.And I will add ,it is most likely the last time I turn on NHRA/FS1 !
