Ok I'll play. The first sentence on my thread. ( Same problem but on a Cheetah shifter). I mentioned as it had exact problem. The cables stiff and on the 1 2 shift the shifter would not hit the 2cd gear detent and the spring would push shifter over and miss the detent and continue into third. Lubed cable and that stopped it.
By the way this shifter was first install in 1993 and I bought it at a swap meet used. Second car in 2002. I would say your 12 year old shifter is brand new. Just saying.

You should know what your talking about before spoutng off. First SS 85 Monte Carlo. Second car Bracket raced 83 Monte Carlo. Stocker has a different Cheetah. shifter. Now can we get back on topic instead of seeing who has the best shifter and makes more passes. Mine didn't work right and I did what I did to fix it. Maybe offer some assistance instead of degrading PPP shifter or telling us you have the best damn shifter in the country and possibly the world. 1320 A Hat

weak, just like your opinion here regarding the OP's freind's issue with a PPP shifter, NOT a Cheetah shifter to which he told you... WRONG, not the cable!

Talk about what you know, not what you think you know.

No ***** Dick Tracy. It was a similar problem and just offered my opinion to help the guy. So far your help as help has been I would never have that shifter. That is great advice for someone asking for help. Sorry to the thread starter for getting off track. Hopefully you all found this to be humorous typing to prez of Team Stupid.

OK -- FOR A PPP SHIFTER ----FIRST YOU MUST adjust the shifter in SECOND GEAR---not First --Not third --Not reverse or park but SECOND gear ONLY----make sure that the shifter cable has no sharp bends in it-it is not binding it is securely mounted----on the gear selector/shifter arm on trans holes are ROUND not elongated, not oval etc. but PERFECTLY ROUND--the shifter arm is not flexing as you are shifting if it is beef it up so there is no flex---make sure that when you are adjusting the shifter arm on the trans that the shifter cable fitting slides into and out of the shifter arm on the trans WITH ABSOLUTELY no resistance ,drag, nothing and that the shifter arm is not moving as you do this --- even the slightest drag on sliding that fitting into the arm will cause problems or the arm moving as you are doing this procedure will cause problems --IT HAS TO BE PERFECT---Try it see what the results are---FED 387

Again, captain clueless, talk about what you know, not what you think you know!

Now back to this PPP shifter issue....

If following the installation instructions in these 3 links doesn't resolve your friend's issue, then he needs to call PPP @ (208) 585-2814

I've got the forward (push) shift PPP for a C4 and the reverse (pull) for a Protrans 727/904. The forward shift doesn't have a positive stop for 2nd gear despite having a lip on the detent pattern. You may be able to adjust the spring in the handle or find some other way to make it a positive stop, but mine's an air shifter so I never really cared.

I found that if you just hit the lever with your palm or finger--like a slap stick shifter--it'll go right into 2nd gear and not skip to 3rd.
