oldskool, I guess I got mixed up, it is Stephanie Pikes LeMans that is the sedan, Underhills car is indeed a hardtop. Considering I saw the car at a local Stock/SS race last month, I should have paid more attention ! I just assumed Pikes car was a T37, not being a Pontiac guy, I ASSumed that that was the only way to get the 455 in a non GTO, my mistake. Not sure what the best numbers for Underhills car is, but I have seen it go 10.5s a couple of times, and is usually near the top of the qualifying list whenever I have seen it run at Miramichi or Greenfield.

I see different people have different ideas as to what is a rare car being raced. I tend to think anything that was produced in numbers down around the 50 min that NHRA required or less is a rare car.

Stan
Rare and uncommon are often confused in the automotive world.

OS, I think that the original thought behind this thread was rare OEM cars (orig. RA2, 428 CJ) that are still being raced. Personally, I think that anyone still racing an original and rare car is nuts but I've been called the same for the stuff that I do.
Going by your premise, I guess that my LeMans is the rarest Pontiac out there. It's 1 of 1.
AND OBTW, a "small block" Pontiac!

Oldskool,
With all respect due to you as you bring much to this forum, I agree with Billy that this thread had been hijacked from it's original premise.

"...the original thought behind this thread was rare OEM cars (orig. RA2, 428 CJ) that are still being raced..."

OK, going strictly by that, I have no way of knowing about EVERY Pontiac, which ones may have been "ORIGINAL" RA2, RA4, 455HO, SD455, or other rare cars.

I've read that John Clegg bought his '73 SD455 Bird new. So, is that "rare" ? What was the max number of units sold allowed, and still could be called "rare". Like, would less than 100 units be "rare", but 500 or more units would NOT be rare ? Who determines the standard ?

Another Pontiac example: Bruce Noland has a '69 T/A, clone or tribute. Only one I know of in class racing. Also running a RA4 engine. BUT, not a factory built combo. So, if that car wouldn't qualify for this thread, then most of the cars I mentioned wouldn't either. And I know almost nothing about most of the cars, especially not whether they came from the factory with the rare equipment, or not.

So, I suppose MOST of the cars I posted do NOT qualify for this thread.

My apologies to all who thought my posts were inappropriate !

Dude, read the first post. That's the standard.
For me the Wenzel's Z/28 is THE standard.

The whole purpose of this thread was for real, originally produced muscle cars with rare engine combo's from the factory. That's why I only posted real cars that I know the vins of, not cars that run that combo. In my opinion, mule car is not a rare car! I wouldn't include a BIW new CJ with a real one either.

Oldskool,
What can you tell us about my favorite Poncho, Norm Warling's M/SA?
