Cool Re: Crate Motor Class

The first think NHRA would do is slap 30-40 HP on all crate motors....Oh, everyone forget how under- factored they are... I don't have a problem with crates but less get real on the HP....Then we would see how they like HP & what it costs......................................... I think we should leave well enough alone.......
If you like to run both build a stock, otherwise keep running the crate motors..
I still think crates are the biggest reason more NHRA cars don't attend IHRA, just look at Q- sheet... Until IHRA factors those motor correctly everything stay the same.. Its all about choices........ .Good Luck in 2009

As i see it you can run almost anything you want in IHRA stock eliminator..still they have very limited car counts..seems like everytime they come up with another class to run in thier game they in the end uploosing car count in the end...are now NHRA willing to try the same deal? why not learn from others mistakes? because IHRA is in populated areas, according to many respect racers way,way more and so on...so whats up??

There nothing stock about stock anymore alot of people say..thats a stupid attitude that does no good at all...I say lets save NHRA stocker racing once and for all!!

The only reason there are a lot of crate motors at the top of the sheet is because there are a lot of crate motors *in* IHRA, and most of the fast NHRA guys *don't* run IHRA. There's only one crate in Nitro Joe's Top Guns. Take a bunch of crates and throw them into an NHRA race, and I guarantee they won't qualify nearly as well. It doesn't matter if you put 100hp on the crates, the guys that don't want to run IHRA won't. That's their decision. If you did away with crate motors, those same guys still wouldn't come over. I wish that they *would* come play, because racing in IHRA is a great deal, a great deal of fun, and a much easier schedule. But that's just my opinion. NO, I'm not lobbying for anybody to change anything. Just wish people would live and let live. The argument is like Chevy guys looking down on Ford guys, or everybody looking down on FWD cars. It's a bunch of nonsense.

I don't have a problem with crate motor cars. Put the correct carb on 'em, a little safety equipment, and let 'em run Super Stock. I'm sure there's a class they'd fit right in. AND they can even run their IHRA big tires. Come on over to NHRA, the waters just fine! (PS; bring your wallet.)
That makes more sense than anything else... seems like they'd fit in SS/GT. (NO, I'm not lobbying for anybody to change anything.)

WOW ! !
Let's see now ,hit them 30/40 hp. yeah that's fair
I see you have a problem running a guy that's racing on a budget..
OH, now it's NHRA cars don't attend because of crate motors ? That's a smart one David
I believe Rockingham last fall had alot of NHRA cars'''You must have missed it..
If you want to run both NHRA & IHRA build another car, yeah like that's a another smart move today
It's all a bracket race when the real race start's....
I'll bet the Crate motor car's are more stock than most of the stocker's..
What stocker ever came with a lap top?

Unfortunatly us "crate motor" guys will be way more legal than you stocker guys. Thats the cool thing...I run a vortec 330hp combo. The heads flow just as good as a ported Camel back. But we all know all you stocker guys don't have ported heads right? :

There is over 150 pages of replies and really dont care or have the time to look at every one to see how bad the class is being put down. NHRA stocker guys should wake up and really have a look at the class...ITS STOCK BOYS....same everything except for the intake rule. And we get a 750cfm carb for small blocks and 850cfm for big blocks. Theres nothing SPEC about the motor so whoever said that is really lost. My crate motor runs a 300hp stocker cam with .400 lift. Everything is the same....pistons, rods, crank, ect. Close the hood and they all sound the same...who cares. Im pisd off because im selling my 330hp crate and im buying a 295hp stocker motor just to come race some NHRA races. Guess I should have waited.

Welcome to the "dark side" (NHRA). I wouldn't assume you should have waited, were I in your position. NHRA has not even mentioned that they are considering allowing crate motors. At least not that I've seen or heard, anywhere, unofficially, or officially.

NHRA did back when IHRA first adopted the crate motor concept but as usual they would have made it more expensive by requirining a NEW current year spec body (rolling chassis) and a spec. "CRATE" engine. IE: 302 in a new T-Bird, etc. I bet you guys are glad that didnt happen.
