I have a SuperWinch S3500 that I use in my 24' enclosed to load and unload my 3500 lb. car.
I need to replace the cable (wire rope). It is 7/32" x 50'. I have been looking on the 'net and find what seems to be the same cable/hook combinations, ranging in price from 19.95 to 75.00 (SuperWinch replacement). I am wondering what I should look for, as I do not want to spend 75.00 for a 20.00 item. I also do not want to chance a possible "incident" loading, or unloading my car.... :-( Thanks for any recommendations/ experiences you can share..... To me, this is kind of like helmets, like Jim said. Do you have a $20 head or a $200 head.
I've seen people crimp on their own ends for the wire rope, and after enough rolls on the drum, it "SHOULD" be fine. I'd spend the extra $$. |

Tractor Supply, or Farm & Fleet, whatever you have over there.
Wholesaler for those sort of things is the Tway Co. here in Indianapolis.

If you can use a slightly thicker line, you could get one from tow truck parts companies like AW direct.

Try to find a product that is built in North America. I inspect wire rope/cable every day and some of the "Off Shore" product that is out there is sketchy at best. Pay the money for the good stuff.

I had to replace the line on my winch for the rear door last year. I took the winch off and went over to the company that does our 20 ton over head cranes..... they had the line in stock.. cut it crimped it and rewound it back on to the winch for me.... It cost me $40.00 for them to do it

Thanks for all the great info........... I do want "the best" for my car, but I also want to be an educated consumer. I know you pay $$$$ for "a name" when if you have done your research, you can get an item manufactured by the same co. or equivalent (with out the name on it) for half the money........ Kind of like buying generic drugs, they do the same job, for a fraction of the cost...... Keep the info coming.
