Carolina Classic Modified Production presented by Hickory Enclosed Trailer Sales/ Racing Performance Motorcoaches rolled into The Dragway at Coastal Plains Park for race #3 of the 2025 season on Saturday evening. It was an extremely hot/humid evening in Jacksonville, NC but we were all prepared for the heat & made the best of it to get our race completed in a timely manner. We had 7 cars on property with only 6 of them planning to race. Q1 saw 6 cars make complete passes. Coming out on top after Q1 was Robbie Draughon in his 1966 Chevrolet Corvette AM running a 5.240 at 131.67 mph on his 5.90 index. Claiming the #2 spot was Steve Johnson, back in his 1966 Chevrolet Chevy II CM, running a 5.578 at 123.45 mph on his 6.20 index. Mark Moreland EM was # running 5.936 at 116.73 mph on his 6.50 index, #4 was Ronnie Yopp DM running 5.845 at 118.77 mph (6.35 index), #5 Brad Smith BM running 5.510 at 121.41 mph (6.01 index), & #6 was Darrion Houston EM running 6.039 at 113.09 mph on his 6.50 index.
We only had 5 cars make the Q2 call as Brad Smith broke a gear in the Gary McKee "Day Dreamer" Corvette. The Top 3 picked up during Q2 with Steve Johnson claiming his 2nd Liberty's Gears Top Qualifier award running a 5.466 at 124.48 mph (6.20 index). Draughon went a 5.184 at 131.62 mph (5.90 index), & Moreland improving by running a 5.863 at 116.78 mph (6.50 index). The ladder is now set & it has Johnson CM taking on Yopp DM with the winner receiving a laddered bye run to the finals, Draughon AM taking on Smith BM, & Moreland & Houston in a EM heads up race. After skipping a round in the rotation for Smith to get the car fixed, Robbie & Brad were the 1st pair out in E1. Draughon was late at the tree but drove around Smith at the top end taking the 1st round win. He went a 5.202 at 131.70 mph (-0.698 under) while Smith went a 5.527 at 124.41 mph (-0.483 under). Houston & Moreland was the 2nd pair out in the heads-up EM run. Neither driver was in a hurry at the tree but Moreland came out on top. Mark went 5.912 at 116.18 (-0.588 under) & Darrion went 6.072 at 112.46 mph (-0.428 under). Yopp & Johnson was the final pair to go down the track in E1. Yopp had the better reaction time but Johnson ran a 5.471 at 124.32 mph (-0.729 under) taking the R1 win. Round 2 pairings were Johnson with the bye run & Draughon taking on Moreland. Robbie turned on the red light by a mere -.001 handing the round win over to Mark. Robbie went a 5.218 at 131.57 (-0.682 under) & Mark went a 5.853 at 116.45 mph (-0.647 under). This would have been a heck of a side-by-side run if Draughon had left on green. Johnson stepped up his game on the bye run; 5.436 at 124.91 mph (-0.764 under), setting up the finals. Here we have a repeat of our 1st race at GALOT Motorsports Park earlier this year. Steve Johnson CM versus Mark Moreland EM. Steve had Mark at the tree & went on to claim his 2nd win of the season. He was .064, ran 5.479 at 124.55 mph. Mark was .087, ran a 5.867 at 116.13 mph. Steve received his race winnings, the Xclusive Hauling/Grading Bounty Hunter money since noone beat him this race, a trailer check courtesy of MJ's Custom Printing & Graphics, the CCMP Christmas tree trophy built by Caleb Beaman with engine parts provided by Erson Cams/PBM Performance, a Winner's hat sponsored by PSPA, a $250.00 certificate to Hippie Headers, a certificate for a set of spark plugs from E3 Spark Plugs, a 5 gallon pail of F25 fuel from Fuel Factory, $100.00 Altronics Inc gift certificate, $50.00 Meziere Enterprises gift certificate, $100.00 Edelbrock Performance gift certificate, & a $100.00 COMP Cams gift certificate. Mark received his race winnings, a smaller trailer check courtesy of MJ's Custom Printing & Graphics, $150.00 gift certificate for Hippie Headers, a 5 gallon pail of PRO 116+ fuel from Renegade Racing Fuel-Ford?s Fuel South East Master Distributor, 50% one item from Zamp Racing, $50.00 COMP Cams gift certificate, & a $50.00 Edelbrock Performance gift certificate. Our next race is at Farmington Dragway on Saturday, August 23rd. We will also finish race #2 during qualifying at that race. We look forward to seeing everyone in a little less than a month.
