Just interested in why classes like SS/A and SS/B cars can run a sheet metal intake in SS. I only noticed it before on the AH cars but I see there on A and B cars also.

I believe the rule books state any intake manifold can be used in SS.

Where is performance advantage with the SM intakes? Our SS combos (SB Chevies) haven't experiemented with them, but imagine if you have the underhood room to straightened out the runners, that's a start?

There are some other S/S cars with sheet metal manifolds - I have seen some Fords
and I think Randall Klein's 2x4 265 chevy has one as well

I think it's pretty common on the 440-6bbl cars. Any SS car is allowed these intakes. Be wary though, some people spend $3500+ on these and slow down!

There are very few cast manifolds available for the multiple carburetor cars. Where you can buy a single carburetor cast intake that will do a decent job on a Super Stock engine from any number of companies like Edelbrock or Holley, if you have a 3 two barrel or 2 four barrel engine, there probably isn't anything available in a cast intake. The thing about sheet metal intakes is that if you know what the engine wants, you can build an intake that fits the combination (provided there's room under the hood). But if you don't know what it wants, or you don't give it what it wants, a sheet metal intake may turn out to be an expensive paper weight.

On the multi carb BB Chryslers it allows you to raise and reshape the port. The old STR manifolds were the beginning and the Early Pro Stock guys taught us well, Paul.
