I just looked on Ebay and it shows both styles, is it possible they made a bolted together aluminum wheel for drag racing and a chrome steel smooth wheel that was welded?

I have original Monocoque wheels. They do not have bolts. The halves are welded together. The early wheels did bolt together. I bought mine just before Monocoque went out of business and Bogart started making their style wheels. To my knowledge they were never riveted

Just talked to Ricky Bogart and they can still make that original wheel but they don't advertise it. He also took a few minutes to tell me a quick story about how they started making them which was very interesting, wooden jigs on a drill press with a hole saw to put the holes in the wheels, among other stuff.
