Hey Art,
Concerning whether the synthetic absorbs more heat or not, I wondered that myself. However, I know that Mopar now recommends ATF+4 synthetic for all autos, regardless of year. I think the answer may have just revealed itself. So far so good, no leaks or complaints from my transaxle. I glued the pans on with the latest Mopar Engine & Gear Sealant (P/N 82300234). It's gray in color and tough as nails. Even synthetic oil can't weep through :^) But trying to take the pan off afterwards is a royal pain!

By the way, TranSynd is $8.75 a quart. Whew! Sounds like you got a deal with yours at only $8 a quart, haha.

Rich the main problems I had with the 413 type trannys were kicking the differential pin. And getting the converters not to break. The torque builds up so quick on the turbo cars it destroys the hard parts in the converters.

Art, Gary Peloquin (www.peloquins.com) now has a torsion style LSD that fits the A413 without needing the ring gear spacer the OBX or Quaife requires. It's a spendy one grand, but it has top quality German bearings and such. Several have used it and reported no problems. Unfortunately, I've been cash strapped for the last year, so I've not bought one yet.
Mark, I'll look into the high tack gasket sealer you've desribed. Anything is better than taking a jack hammer to a pan because the RTV is too good, haha. Thanks.

Final Update:
After driving with the Allison Transynd in my A413 for several months, I have definite proof it's not compatible. Here's the data in the order of modification. I apologize for not having any quarter mile results, but I figured the MPG would be a good indicator: Overall gear ratio: 3.22 Fluid: Dexron III MPG: 25 Trans temp on freeway: 130 Overall gear ratio: 3.02 Fluid: Transynd MPG: 18 Trans temp on freeway: 190 Overall gear ratio: 2.6 Fluid: Transynd MPG: 22 Trans temp on freeway: 190 Overall gear ratio: 3.02 Fluid: Dexron III MPG: 25 Trans temp on freeway: 140 Note how the temperature is still slightly higher after I flushed out the Transynd and put Dexron III back in. There must be a small amount remaining. I'll flush it again for good measure. I don't have exact knowledge as to what caused this drop in MPG (performance too!) and increased heat, but I feel the torque converter was the culprit as it may have been incompatible with the Transynd. Maybe Transynd requires a different TC design? Well, this was a failed experiment, but what's life without adventure? A good friend of mine who raced NHRA Comp Eliminator said that in experiments like this, 90% is research & development. Only 10% of the parts, fluids, & procedures tested are actually used to race. I hope everyone can get some useful information from this.
