Bruce Fulper : Please help me out. What does your post have to do with old modified Corvettes? Admittedly, I just take pictures. I am not a racer. I am not an engine builder. Seems that I am not understanding something.

Because........there are posts and talking that include guys that have other cars, not 'vettes, they've posted that they'd like to be involved too. Some of the posts put up even suggest potential rules to include Fords and Mopars.

THAT, my dear friend is what caused me to want to possibly jump in the fray too. :-)

I'm fond of heads-up competition. These M/P ideas get me excited. Fun stuff.

Happy New Year!

I remember the Ault & James car when I was a child (54 now). I also found the pic of that car in dad's old collection of Corvette News from the US Nats (taking out the tree after breaking the engine on the starting line) back in the mid 1970's. Would love to see that car again,....maybe racing at Norwalk in the future. I loved watching and listening to all the Vette's in Modifed when dad and I would head down to Columbus for the Spring Nationals when I was a youngster. I like Randy Wilson's Nostalgia Modified idea.
Thanks, Ron P.

Ron P,

Just recently I FINALLY saw the video of that Indy final where Jerry Ault blew the engine. While it was CLOSE, he did miss the tree. Competition Plus posted the videos of the '76 Indy Nationals. Wish this thread would get back to posting pictures of the old Vettes.....

It's been a while since I was on here so let me introduce myself. I'm just an old hillbilly from Kentucky who loves Corvettes and specifically Corvette race cars. When I joined this site a little over a couple of years ago, I had just agreed to purchase Doug Engels' 1961 Corvette known as Shotgun, so I made my username Shotgun 61. I even contacted the previous owner Ronnie Mack and told him I just bought his old car from Doug and he was excited, but not as excited as I was. Well.................. we all know what can happen when we "count our chickens before they hatch". . Sometimes life takes a sudden and catastrophic turn we are not expecting and that happened to me, so I had to call Doug and very embarrassed I told him I could not fulfill my commitment, ......which I still regret to this day.

As they say...................time waits for no one, so to make a long story shorter....................... life took another turn, more positive this time and I had an opportunity to buy the Ault & James (Angelo Dicarlo) 63 Corvette.

I've owned the car for a couple years now and with the help of my friends Jerry Ault and his crew chief Dave Thomas I have returned it to its original 1970s livery. When the car arrived at my house it was as Angelo had raced it, minus engine and transmission. Yes indeed it was a stunning car in that beautiful red color, but knowing the car's history I felt it deserved to be restored as it was most well known as the F/G and H/G Ault & James car.

I have owned Corvettes since 1968 when I was starting my senior year in high school.........................yeah, that was in the last century (LOL) but my passion for these cars has only grown stronger. In all my years of owning Corvettes, this experience with the Ault & James car is the ultimate of ultimates. I have made so many new friends including Jerry Ault and his wonderful family, Dave Thomas, many former racers in Ohio and of course Doug and Lynn Engels, who I met at the US Nationals in Sept 2021 when my grandson and I had the car on display.

Well..................enough of my rambling. I'll post a few pics of the car (when I learn how). I have a bunch of em but I don't want to monopolize this thread.

Thanks,
Rex Turner
Richmond, KY
