Congrats to Scott Burton !
He is div 5 champ in Stock AND Super Stock !
https://www.nhra.com/standings/2021/...ab=super-stock Of course, I especially like the fact that his SS car is Pontiac powered ! I think this is the same car that Steve Smith raced for several years, also with Pontiac power. I think Steve ran 400's. Scott began with a 400. But I think the car's had a 428, for a while now. Scott's son Brad also drove the GT Bird some, & has won at least 1 race in it. Most here know that Brad is a 2-time nat Stock champ, driving a 455 powered '72 Formula Bird. For the few(if there are any here) who don't know, Scott built & drove the quickest old school Pontiac powered Stocker ever. It was a '70 RAIV powered Firebird Formula. He sold it & it was shipped overseas, a year or 2 back. The Burtons have fielded some quick Pontiac powered Stock & SS cars, for quite a few years now. That makes them some of my favorite Pontiac heroes ! Also read a post saying that Scott's wife Diane won the div 5 Stock qualifying award, driving her '74 Formula. Still trying to get all the details of that win straight. If anybody has a link, please post it. Will edit this post with more info on Diane's win, when I have it. This is all I've found, so far. "Every weekend, the number one qualifier in Competition Eliminator, Super Stock, and Stock will receive the NHRA West Central Patterson-Elite Top Qualifier Bonus Award. In addition, the highest qualifying points earners will receive a champion’s style jacket at season’s end..." Last edited by oldskool; 11-09-2021 at 01:43 PM. |

Re: Congrats to Scott Burton !
This is just another in a long line of achievements Scott has been collecting for as long as I have know him over these past 20 years. Professionally he had a spectacular career and flew all over the world in challenging conditions and always came home safely. He was an inspiration to his fellow pilots and many have remarked to me that he was their favorite Captain to fly with.
Scott has always been a really competitive racer who brings his A -game to each event he attends. His work ethic and knowledge have always placed him in the “very tough to beat” category. He shared that mindset with both his son Brad and his wife Diane as they continue to evolve the Burton Racing Team - Brad with 2 National Stock Eliminator Championships at a young age, and Diane going rounds and qualifying #1 in the new car. Scott’s daughter Alyssa is making waves and following in her dad’s wake as she continues her quest to fly professionally. Best of all is the fun and genuine way that Scott and family treat all of their fellow racers. He knows virtually everyone, and always has a kind and welcoming word of encouragement or thanks for all who stop by his pit. I have been so fortunate to get to know them better over the years and cultivate a great friendship with both Scott and his family. They are truly some of the finest people I’ve ever been lucky enough to to hang around with. So it goes without saying that I am proud of Scott for winning both titles the year. He worked hard, persevered, had some fun, and generally just outlasted everybody along the way. It was a pleasure to be involved in supporting him during the build up. My thanks to Scott, Diane, Brad, Brooke and Alyssa for treating me to so many great memories this year. I’ll forever be grateful for all of the laughs, and all of the fun. I’m looking forward to what comes next for 2022! Last edited by Carl Battis; 11-15-2021 at 03:26 AM. |

Re: Congrats to Scott Burton !
Congrats Scott. The whole family is a class act. We don't see each other often, but it is always a pleasure to see any of them. Scott's Ram Air 4 Firebird was featured in High Performance Pontiac magazine in January 2013. I have copy of that magazine signed from Scott to me, VERY COOL.
