Default Coolant recovery on 68 Cutlass

Current set up is 16 lb. cap with the overflow hose going onto ground. With 116 degree outside I'm running 235 and when shut off it will spit out a little. I'm wanting to run a recovery tank but trying find proper radiator cap to let water from tank suck back in. I believe my current cap is 1 way? I think. assuming tank needs hose coming from bottom to always be submerged into water and allow suction back into radiator when cooled.

Jeff, I'm not an expert but I see no one else has responded so I'll give it a shot. First, 235 degrees is pretty hot for an older car and sometimes I would find issues with timing or advance in the distributor especially on Buicks and Oldsmobiles that would effect the running temp. I'm pretty sure we bought recovery kits back in the day which consisted of a recovery tank, hoses, and I think a cap and they may have came from NAPA. The tank was pretty large, at least a quart maybe a little more

You are correct. 72 Olds has a recovery system like you described and looks original to the car. I have only been 235 a couple times. With some fluid loss after being shut off. I'm usually 220 with 110 plus outside air and no fluid loss. Just want to be able to stop checking every week and adding some fluid. Would rather capture and send back.

This^^^^^^^^. Only thing I can add is make sure the recovery tank transfer tube is open. I’ve seen some tanks that have the opening molded shut. You’ll wonder why your upper radiator hose is sucked together.
