The reason is to keep the gap from closing if the piston were to hit the grd strap

Electrode strap should be between 11 and 1 o'clock Use a marker to put a line on porcelin and you may need 12 plugs to get all 8 indexed correctly..

If the plugs are indexed incorrectly, you will probably know after the first run down the track. That’s how I found out ......As usual , ROD BUTCHER is correct ......I always buy a ten pack of plugs....

If with 10 plug you can't get them index correctly, Moroso sells indexing washers.

Moroso 71910 - Moroso Spark Plug Indexing Washers. They have 4 different washers

Bob, the washers you have/use, are they the ones that are sort of hollow/concave?
What I mean is the ones I had were hard to "seat" ; I never really knew if
my plugs were tight or not.
