I like the ideas on the different clutch brands. Dad and I always used the Soft-loc in the Fairlane. I am used to it but I am guessing the tuning is all about the same.

I have a QT in both of my cars...they were 20 plus lighter than the Lakewood. Also if you plan on running stock, your removable tunnel won't be legal...

Also, how much tunnel can I remove? My Fairlane didn't need too much but I had an aluminum piece with zeus fasteners to remove it. All of one side and the top of the tunnel. Maybe 22" long altogether. I don't think I will have to remove much more if that much would I?

On my 85 Mustang, I did not actually cut the tunnel out, I split the tunnel along the bend where the drivers side of the tunnel met the top of the tunnel, bent the side back so it was straight up, and welded in a strip about 3" wide to fill the gap. These cars had narrow manual transmissions with internal rail shifters, so when you install a transmission that is wider, and uses external shifter linkage with 3 rods and a high mounted shifter unit, it really eats up the space.

I expected that but was going to make a removable cover so after I move the carpet out of the way I can remove the piece of the tunnel to gain access to the shifter and allow for removal. This piece will also cover the shifter but will be wider at that place on the tunnel. Basically cut it at the drivers side floor up to and just past top center where the normal shifter hole is and forward some. Bend a piece removable metal that I can take out and put back in. This is how the Fairlane is. Is this not allowed anymore? 90% of the tunel will remain intact other than some bending maybe.

NHRA rulebook states "Complete stock floor, in stock location mandatory"
Removable floor section allowed in Super Stock.I imagine you could do some pounding though.

Add metal to make enough room for the trans and shifter. Use as much original floor as possible. Make any removable piece small. Make it look good, like Ford made it that way. Cover it with carpet. I doubt there would be any objections.
