Mark,
Do you remember Don Scinto`s SS Pontiac wagon?
I heard it was a low HP 389, because of the cam
in SS cam gets changed anyway, so it was fast
Any details?
MJ

Here's a wagon that was a Stock record holder. Don't have any info on it. But, It was in HPP mag. So, those who have that issue could tell us more.

I'm posting another wagon on the SS Pontiac thread, that was a MANY time record holder.

Since I have raced Pontiacs for 40 years I love them all. One that comes to my mind is that big Pontiac Wagon I think it ran SS/O Jack Mullins. Car just happened to have Turks Auto Salvage on the lower rear Quarter. Secondly would be anything Bob Michael was racing. Presently to me Chris Stephenson's Firebird is impressive.
The first stocker that ever caught my attention was a 69 Firebird C/SA of Pete and Wolfe Flescher (?) back in the Motion Raceway Days

Cool Thread

Yeah, we talked about that Jack Mullins wagon, on the SS thread. We saw him race it, at a points race in Jackson, MS, in '75. I didn't know a Pontiac engine would wind that high, til I heard that 389 screamin. I loved watchin/listening as Jack snatched on the 4-speed. He was my 2nd Pontiac hero, after Truman Fields.

That year, he won the Sports Nats & the US Nats. At the US Nats, he beat the factory Mopar, driven by "Miss Mighty Mopar", Judy Lilly. And, your almost correct. The car had "Turk's Auto Parts" on the rear lower qrts.

I agree that Chris's Bird is awesome. And he's had a good season.

Not familiar with the '69 Bird you mentioned. I suppose the only '69 Bird Stocker I can think of that is racing now, belongs to John Schloe. There are probably others I just don't know about. The '68's have always been popular.

PS: Wish I'd had the money, when your car was up for sale. Sounded like a bargain to me. Seems i remember that the new owner won at least 1 race with it this season.

They won Columbus in the Grand Am and had strong showing the rest of the year. I really enjoyed N/SA racing but it was time for a change and I missed sub 11 second runs still miss em wink wink

Since my wife raced '68 Birds, I've always liked 'em. Here's a Gillespie Bird driven by Julie Biermann.

Ronald Prince has one.

Todd Hoven has one. Todd now drives a Mopar. Duane has been driving the Bird. There's a story behind the Bird. I think Todd got it from Truman Fields, For a while he painted it up as a tribute to Truman's "Hard Times" Bird, which was the car that made Truman my first Pontiac hero. Todd has explained the whole story about the car to me. But, I may get it all messed up. So, I'll just leave it at that.

Leo Glasbrenner ran a '68. Lately, he's been racing a late model in Stock, and his 4th gen GT car in SS. Don't know if he plans on running the '68 next season, or not.
