From a winning aspect, it would be Monteith/Biondo. But for performance my vote is Bob Cruzen. He went 8.90 @ 146.13 first round of class at Indy in GT/AA 2016. To my knowledge this was the first time a Pontiac ran in the eights at an NHRA meet with a Quadrajet. The late Frank Grossi was the first Quadrajet Super Stocker to dip in the eights but that was with a Chevy.

Yeah, it was a nat record holder. We saw it run at the 1978 Cajun Nats. Got a real good close-up of Sonny & the car. Had never heard of Sonny Ray or the car. Didn't know who it belonged to, til I ask here.
https://classracer.com/classforum/sh...27&postcount=1 Sonny won the Cajun Nats in '79 & '82 ! http://www.nhra.net/50th/results.asp?mYear=1979 http://www.nhra.net/50th/results.asp?mYear=1982 I think after it got a new paint job, it was the same car David Rampy used to get his 1st nat event win, in around 1983, at the Cajun Nats. https://classracer.com/classforum/sh...31&postcount=3 Last edited by oldskool; 12-28-2019 at 01:54 AM. |
