I believe it was a 2 bbl, too.
Never got to meet the man, heard lots of good things.
My former partner, Mike Smith was in a restaurant with Al after substanial consumption of "adult beverages". While talking to the waitress about their racing, Mike told her, "And he's the World Champion". The effect of the alcohol on Al seemed to leave her less than impressed. lol

Had some epic battles with Al, and yes , he had fun at the track. We both ran sticks in usually J,K,or L stock at that time. He did it all, D1 champ, World Champ, record holder.

Rest in Peace my friend

Was runner up to Alan ( as a lot of people were) in my first National event final in the early 80s.When a couple of Div.1 loud mouths came over and started to harass me at the decal check, Alan ran over and told them to shut up,and move on.He was a very consistent light cutter. He wasn't always killer on the tree, but always green, and good.RIP Alan
